Bullies: How the Left's Culture of Fear and Intimidation Silences Americans
a book by Ben Shapiro
(our site's book review)
The Amazon blurb says that From the editor-at-large of Breitbart.com comes a galvanizing and alarming look at the strategy and tactics of leftist thuggery.
While President Obama and the left like to pretend that they oppose bullying with all their hearts and souls, the truth is far darker: the left is the greatest purveyor of bullying in modern American history. Bullying has morphed into the left’s go-to tactic, as they attempt to quash their opponents through fear, threat of force, violence, and rhetorical intimidation on every major issue facing America today.
Ben Shapiro uncovers the simple strategy used by liberals and their friends in the media: bully the living hell out of conservatives. Play the race card, the class card, the sexism card. Use any and every means at your disposal to demonize your opposition—to shut them up. Then pretend that such bullying is justified, because, after all, conservatives are the true bullies, and need to be taught a lesson for their intolerance. Hidden beneath the left’s supposed hatred of bullying lies a passionate love of its vulgar tactics.
Leftists incite riots and threaten violence, then claim they’re advocates for tolerance. Disagree with Obama? You must be a racist! Obama laughs at how easily people get suckered with his lies—here he shows his true colors
The left has created a climate of fear wherein ordinary Americans must abandon their principles, back abhorrent causes, and remain silent. They believe America is a force for evil, that our military is composed of war criminals, and that patriotism is the deepest form of treason. They incite riots and threaten violence by playing the race card, then claim they’re advocates for tolerance. Disagree with Obama? You must be a racist. They send out union thugs and Occupy Wall Street anarchists to destroy businesses and redistribute the wealth of earners and job creators. No target is off limits as liberal feminists declare war against stay-at-home moms, and gay activists out their enemies, destroy careers, and desecrate personal privacy.
These are the most despicable people in America, bullying their opponents while claiming to be the victims. Shapiro takes on the leftist bullies, exposes their hypocrisy, and offers conservatives a reality check in the face of what has become the gravest threat to American liberty: the left’s single-minded focus on ending political debate through bully tactics.

"Ben Shapiro is a warrior for conservatism, against those who use fear and intimidation to stifle honest debate. I’ve never known him to back down from a fight and, in Bullies: How the Left’s Culture of Fear and Intimidation Silences America, he shows us all exactly why that fight is necessary.” (Glenn Beck, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Cowards)
“Ben Shapiro has a great new book out called Bullies: How the Left’s Culture of Fear and Intimidation Silences America. Ben’s premise about the left’s silencing tactics is absolutely correct. Obviously I’ve witnessed the left’s bullying behavior up close and personal when it’s been directed at those so close to me…Please read Ben’s book and consider his advice about how we must stand up and push back twice as hard against this bullying. We must not allow ourselves to be frightened into silence.” (Sarah Palin)
Discussion would expose the hollow and hypocritical nature of their ideas and beliefs, so the cowardly left avoids it and uses assaults and intimidation instead
"In Bullies: How the Left’s Culture of Fear and Intimidation Silences America, Ben Shapiro shows once and for all that the left is the single greatest source of bullying in modern American life. Their goal: to shut down the political debate in the name of political correctness. Don't let them shut you up -- read Bullies: How the Left’s Culture of Fear and Intimidation Silences America, and learn how to fight back!" (Sean Hannity, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Conservative Victory)
"Bullies: How the Left’s Culture of Fear and Intimidation Silences America is a rousing manifesto against liberal thuggery. Meticulously documented and deeply personal, this book will infuriate AND inspire you. Shapiro exposes all the Left's menaces...infused with the indomitable spirit of his friend and mentor Andrew Breitbart, Shapiro issues a passionate call to arms." "Bullies: How the Left’s Culture of Fear and Intimidation Silences America will shock you with its point-by-point, fiery deconstruction of the left's strong-arm strategy for silencing conservatives. You don't know the left until you've read Bullies: How the Left’s Culture of Fear and Intimidation Silences America. And you won't be able to beat them unless you do." (David Limbaugh, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Great Destroyer)
"Irresistibly readable... Ben Shapiro has nailed the left right where it lives." (David Horowitz, New York Times bestselling author of Radicals)
Shapiro says that "Their twisted logic was deceptively easy. liberals claim that they are all about protecting victim classes from bullies. Conservatives oppose liberals. Therefore, by definition, conservatives must be bullies. And bullies must be stopped. This was the Obama campaign's entire reelection strategy. Everyone is against bullying; unite Americans behind Obama on bullying; then redefine bullying to include everything that Obama and the left oppose. Voila! A unified coalition against bullying becomes a unified coalition against conservatism. Leftists, by definition, become anti-bullying pugilists standing up for the little guy; right-wingers, by definition, become bullies who ought to be punched in the mouth. . . . See, that's the dirty little secret: buried beneath all of the left's supposed hatred for bullying is a passionate love for bullying—the use of power to force those who disagree to shut up, back down, or face crushing consequences up to and including loss of reputation, career destruction, and even death. The left's anti-bullying stance is an enormous lie. It is a purposeful lie. It is a lie designed to disguise the fact that leftists are the greatest group of bullies in American history." See SJWs Always Lie: Taking Down the Thought Police (The Laws of Social Justice Book 1).
That's the left's dirty little secret: buried beneath all of the left's supposed hatred for bullying is a passionate love for bullying—symbolized by the Antifa thugs they use as their hit men
Shapiro's buddy Andrew Breibart believed that he realized what the left was attempting to accomplish: destroy American freedom. The political correctness campaigns do this by forcing the left into accepting their propaganda whether they like it or not, and forcing the right into the category of racist, sexist, evil, uncompassionate, greedy, selfish oppressors and exploiters and victimizers. Although the PC con pretends to be about protecting victimized minorities from evil white male victimizers, it is really about seizing power. Who has the power in the media, in Hollyweird, and in academia? The left. So without Fox News and the other rightwing media outlets, there would be no balancing. Fox gets to play the role of racist, sexist, evil, uncompassionate, greedy, selfish oppressors and exploiters and victimizers and they give the left something to point at as the problem.
Breibart hated the left because he had decoded their ugly con. They were trying to gain power by having the citizens lose power by defining one another as bullies and victims. This hostility kept them divided—atomized. Political correctness is an insidious and hypocritical form of bullying. Bullies cannot stand up to bullying because they are cowards. One of Breitbart's favorite things is hitting back at the bullies or watching someone else doing it.
Obama was an expert bully and thug who surrounded himself with vicious thugs and bullies and when his lies were detected he'd play the race card after which the exposer's actions were smeared as racist
Conservatives lost the Culture War because they are civil people while the PC left is peopled by hateful bullies. Their fascist bullying techniques are a way of life for them. They use it to control, which gives them power. They use fear and the threat of force and intimidation to bully others. Obama was an expert bully and thug who surrounded himself with vicious thugs and bullies of the Chicago school of dirty politics—the one Obozo learned from and which starred Saul David Alinsky, auther of Rules for Radicals. All these thugs love stomping their opponents with dirty lies. Obama belongs behind bars.
Obama belongs behind bars
We must avoid a second civil war
Leftist bullies label the U.S. a terrorist nation—but it is SO MUCH MORE!. The U.S. is many things, a bully, a liar, a terrorist nation, the world's self-elected policeman, a wonderous country full of natural wonders and some good people as well as bad, some losers but also some very creative people, a very divided people that will end up in a civil war unless we can learn to make peace between left and right.
The liberals' victimization fetish is pathetic, and so is demonizing the Founders and whites and males
Shapiro mainly just follows the rightwing party line, putting down those who don't. He does a great job of crying foul when the liberals oppress us by using their ugly PC religion to bully and threaten, and calling out the liberals for ruining American higher education, Hollyweird, and the media. The liberals' victimization fetish is pathetic, and so is demonizing the Founders and whites and males. We concur with his lower-than-dirt opinion of racebaiting bullies like Al Sharpton. He is absolutely right. But his following of the rightwing political platform—toeing the party line happily—lacks imagination. He is smarter than that. Both parties have some right and wrong positions. It's just that the leftists' positions are more dangerous to our country.
Occupy Wall Street was a totally legitimate, sincere response to greedy corporations pushing things too far. There needs to be fairness for everyone—we all need a piece of the American pie, even if Shapiro feels the need to be a rightwing conformist and denigrate them. He put down pro-choice women just because they opt for expressing their right to control their reproduction, and homosexuals for having different sexual preferences than he has.
There needs to be fairness for everyone—we all need a piece of the American pie
The hogs at the trough ate like greedy pigs, leaving hardly a scrap for the rest of us to fight over
When the income gap became too extreme, the citizens had every right to complain—and they did
Occupy Wall Street was allowed as long as the protestors weren't really allowed to occupy or disrupt Wall Street, which would be blasphemy to the rich and powerful, and as long as protestors could be conveniently shuffled off to a convenient private park—out of sight, out of mind.

'You know, Archibald, my bladder is a tad too full—do these windows open? I'd like to send my regards to those pesky OWS protesters'
The Occupy Wall Street movement struck a chord with millions of Americans with its new sloganeering regarding "We are the 99%" which referred to growing income disparity and the fact that those who caused the 2008 Depression/Recession got bonuses while the 99% of us regular Americans got the shaft. However, two years after OWS the growing income disparity had just gotten worse, and no economic policies in the U.S. had been revamped to prevent a repeat of the crisis. See Requiem for the American Dream: The 10 Principles of Concentration of Wealth & Power.
'We are the 99%' referred to growing income disparity and the fact that those who caused the 2008 Depression/Recession got bonuses while the 99% of us regular Americans got screwed
Shapiro is right to feel sickened by Clinton's and Obama's use of the FBI and IRS and others to harass political enemies. This is supposed to be a democracy. He is also 100% correct that the left's rejection of a fair, colorblind society in favor of reverse racism is wrong and stupid, as even black Justice Clarence Thomas has said.
Our leaders knew Vietnam was a totally unwinnable war, but kept our soldiers in there fighting and dying anyway. For what? Corporate profits. The soldiers were being used as cannon fodder
More bombs were dropped in Vietnam than in all previous wars combined, including WWI and WWII—this made American arms suppliers VERY rich and they pressured politicians to extend the fighting, making their profits blood money
On the other hand, implying that the U.S. lost the Vietnam War because our left pulled us out is silly. Shapiro needs to read better history books, like The Concise Untold History of the United States. The USSR and China would have sent more weapons to the North Vietnamese for a century to help them fight the American aggressors who had no business there. Our leaders knew this, knew it was a totally unwinnable war, but kept our soldiers in their fighting and dying anyway. For what? Corporate profits. The soldiers were being used as cannon fodder and many in the USA and many in the warzone knew this. Are LBJ's and Nixon's egos actually worth the lives of tens of thousands of our soldiers?!
Flag burners—free expression or being a traitor? The left is anti-patriotic. What's more, they bully all those who dare disagree
Shapiro again: "The left is anti-patriotic. What's more, they bully all those who dare disagree. They've twisted the American education system to teach generations of Americans that their country is a planetary scourge, second only to global warming in the pantheon of great moral evils. Anti-patriotic bullies slander their opponents as jingoistic boobs in thrall to the military-industrial complex, racists who want to kill brown and yellow people. They say we're terrorists, and actual terrorists are freedom fighters, as Michael Moore famously spluttered between bites of bacon burger. Worst of all, the anti-patriotic bullies redefine patriotism to fit their own agenda. Traditional patriotism, it turns out, is bullying."
Free speech is the basis of a free society and the first thing leftist tyrants aim to destroy
Shapiro’s thesis in Bullies: How the Left’s Culture of Fear and Intimidation Silences America is that the left bullies the American public into silence so that there won't be any opposition to the leftist agenda, also bullying the American public into tacit support of the ugly leftist agenda. Few leftists SAY racist things like “If you don’t vote for Obama, you are a racist,” but they bully us by implying this. To support his thesis, Shapiro cites many examples and case histories. He also cites the hypocrisy of the left. Free speech is the basis of a free society and the first thing tyrants aim to destroy. There is no doubt that a portion of liberals out there would happily deny conservatives a voice if they had the opportunity, which they get in universities when they block conservative thoughts and ideas and speakers. There is much talk about Facebook and Google blocking conservative people and content. Is it true?
Shapiro apparently has not worked out his issues about being Jewish, so his book needlessly rants on the subject in a way that feels more like working out his psychological issues on the subject than it does imparting any relevant information
Shapiro apparently has not worked out his issues about being Jewish, so his book needlessly rants on the subject in a way that feels more like working out his psychological issues on the subject than it does imparting any relevant information. The book would be better if he published a new edition without such rants. On the other hand, Shapiro is doing a public service by giving liberals an opportunity to see how they were bullied in school into believing the sick, PC-cursed, toxic liberal narrative. By reading Bullies: How the Left’s Culture of Fear and Intimidation Silences America, they have the opportunity to experience DEPROGRAMMING. Thank you, Ben, for this extremely valuable public service. This man deserves a bigger voice in our world.
The U.S. is in chains, enslaved by the ugly, crazy rhetoric of the leftist nut cases that have managed to enslave the media, Hollyweird, and the educational system, spreading lies and propaganda throughout America and the (once)-free world
Shapiro's book makes it easy to hit these Snowflakes with some knowledge
"While President Obama and the left like to pretend that they oppose bullying with all their hearts and souls, the truth is far darker: the left is the greatest purveyor of bullying in modern American history. It’s laughable that this [Obama] administration considered itself an anti-bullying administration at all, especially given its routine bullying of businesspeople, religious believers, and gun-owners, among others; like most liberals, he would bully viciously if you disagreed with him
"It’s laughable that this [Obama] administration considers itself an anti-bullying administration at all, especially given its routine bullying of businesspeople, religious believers, and gun-owners, among others. But it’s more laughable that the HHS — the same department that recommended and now implements the Obamacare mandate forcing religious business-owners to either violate their religious precepts or fire employees — says that it is anti-bullying. That, in a nutshell, is the Left: They pretend they hate bullies, when in reality, they are the single greatest purveyors of bullying in American life." (Source: Won’t Be Bullied , Ben Shapiro, National Review)
"In summary, Bullies is a valuable book, and it is also a great resource for anyone that is needing inspiration and encouragement for defending traditional values. This story will open your eyes to the bullying that goes on each day that you might not even notice, and it will give you several great examples and arguments as to how to defend your beliefs and your faith. After reading this, I became more courageous because I realized how vital it is to stand up for morality and virtue. America is a country that was built on these two ideals, and as Shapiro says, 'America’s military has been the greatest fighting force for freedom in world history…America does not require apologizing for, but fighting for.'" Shapiro may think that he [Trump] is a bloviating gasbag who’s unqualified for the office, but since Trump eats fast food continuously, does Shapiro know enough not to stand downwind of him? He may start bloviating!
"Shapiro had known Breitbart’s founder, Andrew Breitbart, ever since he emailed to compliment a column Shapiro wrote for the Daily Bruin as a 16-year-old undergrad at UCLA. Breitbart eventually hired Shapiro, years later, but died a month after Shapiro came aboard. Under a new boss, Steve Bannon, Breitbart News cozied up to the Trump campaign and to the burgeoning alt-right movement. Shapiro was disgusted by both. The treatment of Fields was his breaking point. 'In my opinion, Steve Bannon is a bully,' he said in a statement at the time, explaining his resignation from Breitbart, 'and has sold out Andrew’s mission in order to back another bully, Donald Trump; he has shaped the company into Trump’s personal Pravda.' . . . . Shapiro is the new Rush Limbaugh. . . . I may think that he [Trump] is a bloviating gasbag who’s unqualified for the office" (Source: The Many Faces of Ben Shapiro, Seth Stevenson, Slate)
The left is completely uninterested in political discussion or debate (which they'd lose), and instead was interested in resorting to bully tactics to slime their opposition’s character
"What inspired me to write Bullies: How the Left’s Culture of Fear and Intimidation Silences America was the growing realization that the left was completely uninterested in political discussion, and instead was interested in resorting to bully tactics to slime their opposition’s character. Andrew Breitbart was one of my mentors, and he always used to say that the folks on the left were more interested in demonization than they were in debate. They wanted to polarize Americans from one another so they could then pick up the pieces and form them into a coalition for leftism. When Barack Obama was elected, we were supposed to see America transformed into a unified nation once again. Instead, Obama pursued the left’s favored bully tactics more than any president in American history. I felt I had to expose that. The left’s favorite bully tactic is painting its opposition as morally deficient and unworthy of being part of the conversation. The left uses this tactic on virtually every topic. Sequestration? It turns out that those dastardly right-wingers just want to hurt first responders and teachers. Gun control? Those conservatives just don’t care about dead kids. Gay marriage? Conservatives hate homosexuals. Once you paint your opposition as morally bankrupt, you don’t have to win the debate. You win by default. That’s the basis of the political correctness movement." (Source: Bullies: How The Left’s Culture of Fear and Intimidation Silences America, Jamie Glazov, Frontpage Mag)
To summarize, Ben Shapiro is a good author who is to be commended for telling the truth about the ugly perversity of the political correctness movement, and the left’s favorite bully tactic: paint their opposition as morally bankrupt. This allows them to avoid debates—which they would lose. They slime their opposition’s character in political contests so they can avoid rational discussions of the issues. Shapiro's book, Bullies: How the Left’s Culture of Fear and Intimidation Silences America, exposes the warped modus operandi of the left so we can all get a clearer look at the crap they have been pulling for decades. Shapiro is one of the forces for truth in our country, and we can be glad he has the courage to tell it like it is. The man's weaknesses related to religion and Jewish issues simply reflect being raised in a strict religious home, but are strongly overshadowed by his strength of character to be a brave warrior for truth.
