Facts Don’t Care About Your Feelings

a book by Ben Shapiro

(our site's book review)

Ben Shapiro Offers a Sharp, Insightful Reflection on American Politics and Culture over the Last Few Years

The Amazon blurb says that They say history repeats itself. We’ve got a lot of work to do to end up on the right side of it after Election Day 2020. This curated selection of columns is quintessential for any Ben Shapiro fan or skeptic. He offers a sharp, insightful reflection on American politics and culture over the last few years. Between elites who just can’t get down from their soapboxes, the left’s “thought fascism,” the rampant media, and more, the nation is in trouble. And if conservatives don’t act fast, they’ll get what they deserve . . .

Facts Don't Care About Your Feelings is a collection of columns written by Ben Shapiro. Published between 2016 and 2019, these columns highlight Donald Trump’s campaign, election and presidency. The book is divided into 10 chapters that run the gamut from religion to government to the First Amendment and other compelling issues readers on either side of the political aisle will enjoy.

The left’s 'thought fascism' is like the Thought Police of the dystopian novel '1984' by English novelist George Orwell; be careful: the Thought Police are coming to imprison a conservative near you!

Shapiro Speaks at Colleges about Free Speech and Liberal Ideology Being Based on Feelings, Not Facts

"The events ‘Faces of Community’’ presents ideas such as white privilege and transgenderism as realities to never be debated, while ‘Beyond Sex-Ed’ offends the moral sensibility of many students,” a spokesman for Stanford College Republicans (SRC) told The Review. “Ben Shapiro will be coming to speak on how such notions are steeped in leftist ideology and feeling, rather than fact. SCR has sparked free speech debates on campus in the past over its invitations to conservative speakers, including Dinesh D’Souza, Robert Spencer and Charlie Kirk. When asked whether they expect any backlash for hosting Shapiro, SCR added that, It is high time that Stanford students learn they cannot use a heckler’s veto to determine who gets to speak on campus.

Ben Shapiro is editor-in-chief of The Daily Wire and host of "The Ben Shapiro Show," the top conservative podcast in the nation. A New York Times bestselling author, Shapiro is a graduate of Harvard Law School, and an Orthodox Jew. His work has been profiled in nearly every major American publication.

Shapiro Points Out That Antifa Is as Violent and Hateful as the Alt-Right, but the Liberal Media Refuses to Tell the Truth About Them

Shapiro says that "In Charlottesville, Antifa engaged in street violence with the alt-right racists. As in Weimar, Germany, fascists flying the swastika engaged in hand-to-hand combat with Antifa members flying the communist red. And yet, the media declared that any negative coverage granted to Antifa would detract from the obvious evils of the alt-right. Sheryl Gay Stolberg of The New York Times tweeted in the midst of the violence, "The hard left seemed as hate-filled as alt-right. I saw club-wielding `antifa' beating white nationalists being led out of the park." After receiving blowback from the left, Stolberg then corrected herself. She said: "Rethinking this. Should have said violent, not hate-filled. They were standing up to hate." Or perhaps Antifa is a hateful group itself. But that wouldn't fit the convenient narrative Antifa promotes and the media buy: that the sole threat to the republic comes from the racist right. Perhaps that's why the media ignored the events in Sacramento and Berkeley and Seattle—to point out the evils of Antifa might detract from the evils of the alt-right. That sort of biased coverage only engenders more militancy from the alt-right, which feels it must demonstrate openly and repeatedly to "stand up to Antifa." Which, of course, prompts Antifa to violence. Here's the moral solution, as always: Condemn violence and evil wherever it occurs. The racist philosophy of the alt-right is evil. The violence of the alt-right is evil. The communist philosophy of Antifa is evil. So is the violence of Antifa."

We have our rights minus the conservative words and speakers if we let Antifa and loud spoiled brats gag and/or assault conservatives. This will please the Leftists, left elitists, Antifa, mainstream media, Hollywood, liberals, and leftist universities since they no longer want balanced messages—they want liberal messages only—they want to be propaganda machines that indoctrinate

Militant groups like far-left Antifa attack not just alt-right demonstraters but the principles that hold America together, such as free speech, freedom in general, freedom from tyranny, etc. If these violent thugs threaten or assault conservative speakers and their words are not heard, Antifa has violated the rights of the speakers as well as the rights of the audience that wished to hear the speech. If we allow thugs to violate our rights—especially if the media and academia and law enforcement look the other way—then we no longer have the rights that the Constitution says we have. We have them minus the conservative words and speakers. This will please the Leftists, left elitists, Antifa, mainstream media, Hollywood, liberals, and leftist universities since they no longer want balanced messages—they want liberal messages only—they want to be propaganda machines that indoctrinate. They are pleased to erase conservative ideas from existence, which makes the leftist media propaganda machines full of fake news—which is what Trump has said all along.

Liberals Scream at Trump's Supposed Cruelty for the Kids in Cages Situation and the Colluding Mainstream Media Goes Along with it, Painting Trump as Cruel Even Though It Is Democrats Who Are Behind the Cruelty

Trump fired his secretary of Homeland Security in 2019. The media named her the force behind the "caging of children." This is untrue—it was Obama that started it and it was Trump that ended it. Democrats have avoided giving Trump the needed ICE and border patrol resources to properly control the border. So it's been done poorly for many years. The hypocritical Democrats refuse to pass the needed regulations to let families stay together in detainment, nor will they shell out the funds to make detainment more comfortable and humane. Instead, they scream at Trump's supposed cruelty for the kids in cages situation and the colluding mainstream media goes along with it, painting Trump as cruel even though it is Democrats who are behind the cruelty. You gotta love the breathtaking hypocrisy.

Shapiro says that Trump proritizes loyalty over policy and flattering Trump's ego over just about anything. This isn't the first president to highly value such things, but as far as we know he is the first president to make a public spectacle of it. It's a good thing there are laws in our pseudo-democracy, or otherwise we'd all be looking with trepidation and embarrassment at the situation below.

Shapiro Makes Great Points About Liberal Excesses, but His Knowledge of Logic Is Weak

While it is true that Shapiro makes great points about liberal excesses, it is also true that his knowledge of logic is weak at best. The Hillsdale Collegian review correctly warns us of the tyranny of modern liberalism. The Stanford Daily review correctly warns us of the leftist establishment at Stanford, which attempts to put students under the impression that certain false premises of leftist ideology are reality. The Areo Magazine review makes a persuasive case that progressives can and should rely on careful reasoning and serious engagement, rather than moral and personal condemnation (which is cowardly and foolish and childish and wins the argument for the conservative by default as the liberal's ad hominem assault is a logical FALLACY, hardly a winning strategy). The Gazelle review looks at Shapiro's weak (therefore vulnerable) point: he regularly gives poorly articulated anecdotal evidence to back up his highly controversial opinions, and yet he gets away with it, not getting called on it since he doesn't debate truly knowledgeable people who know how to argue since they understand logic. It is utterly predictable that, if Shapiro encountered such a person (truly knowledgeable people who know how to argue since they understand logic), rather than admitting losing the argument, he would sink to ad hominem assault and/or racism, xenophobia, sexism, or personal insult to keep up his image as conservative hero who wins.

Leftists normally are afraid to debate since their obsessively held opinions are backed by feelings (thereby making them true in muddled liberal-think), so sometimes they try to win arguments by screaming and ranting

Shapiro's Entire Career Appears to Hinge on His Ability to Present Opinions As Facts but He’s Well Liked by Both the Far and Center Right

"Shapiro's entire career appears to hinge on his ability to present opinions as facts. He regularly gives poorly articulated anecdotal evidence to back up his highly controversial opinions. . . . Shapiro has somehow been able to escape most public ridicule, and he’s well liked by both the far and center right. . . . he is still viewed as a legitimate resource for conservative content. It is for this reason that he is so dangerous." (Source: Why You Should Worry About Ben Shapiro’s Rhetoric, Ari Hawkins, the Gazelle)

Shapiro is a popular talk show participant and he is still viewed as a legitimate resource for conservative content
Shapiro is a popular talk show participant and he is still viewed as a legitimate resource for conservative content

Give Them An Argument: Logic For the Left is a dangerous book for the leftists to get their hands on, since if they start being able to defend their positions logically, rather that insulting their opponents like cowards, they might start winning against even conservatives who know what they're talking about such as David Horowitz, Charles Murray, Heather Mac Donald, Jane Mayer, Francis Fukuyama, David Riesman, Chris Hedges, Robert D. Putnam, Andrew C. McCarthy, Bruce Bawer, Paul Edward Gottfried, James Ostrowski, Theodore Caplow, William Frank Buckley Jr., Thomas Sowell, Dinesh D'Souza, Mark R. Levin, Andrew J. Bacevich, Peter Schweizer, Charles Krauthammer, Mike Lofgren, Greg Lukianoff, Jonathan Haidt, George Will, Tyler Zed and Dylan Wheeler. Since talk shows are about presentation and marketing and simple message repetition, never logic, the debates with real conservatives are unlikely to ever sink to the level of being about logic, so real conservatives are unlikely to be in any danger unless a lot of things change.

One wonders if elderly candidate Biden will make it through the presidential campaign, and if he croaks, will never-say-die Democrats try to pull a 'Weekend at Bernie's' scenario where his managers attempt to pass him off as alive?
