Power Grab: The Liberal Scheme to Undermine Trump, the GOP, and Our Republic

a book by Jason Chaffetz

(our site's book review)

Liberals Have Reached a New Level of Hysteria and Misconduct

The Amazon blurb says that How much damage will the Democrats do to our republic in the name of saving it?

In the years he served on and eventually chaired the United States House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, Jason Chaffetz gained crucial insight into the inner workings of DC. Things were bad then, but during the Trump administration, liberals have reached a new level of hysteria and misconduct.

Democrat anger has grown so irrational that it has burst through the constitutional guardrails which protect our institutions and our republic. While they constantly label the right "fascist", the left imposes policies which suppress speech, limit freedom, and empower federal bullies.

Here Chaffetz mocks Elizabeth Warren for trying to impress the liberals by citing her 'native American heritage'

In Power Grab: The Liberal Scheme to Undermine Trump, the GOP, and Our Republic, Chaffetz pulls back the curtain on the world of hypocrisy, political intrigue, and procedural malfeasance that is Washington, DC. With stories you won't hear anywhere else, he shows how the left weaves false narratives, drums up investigations in search of a crime, and refuses to direct congressional oversight towards its appropriate target: the government. Democrats weaponize nonprofit advocacy groups and monetize partisan anger to line the pockets of their political allies. They use "voter enrollment" as a smokescreen to hide their plans to destabilize free elections and seek to politicize federal agencies like the Federal Election Commission, the IRS, and the Department of Justice.

It shouldn't be this way. Democrats have abandoned the wisdom set forth in the Constitution for short-term political wins. Power Grab: The Liberal Scheme to Undermine Trump, the GOP, and Our Republic shows the lengths to which Democrats will go to maintain their grip on power, and how the only thing that will stop them is a return to our founding principles.

Liberals: to Save Democracy They Must Subvert It. To Protect Free Speech, They Must Silence It. To Fend Off Fascism, They Must Practice It

Chaffetz says that "This is a book about what happens when one political party decides that to save democracy they must subvert it. To protect free speech, they must silence it. To fend off fascism, they must practice it. To promote good public policy, they must resist it. In the end, it appears that to uphold the rule of law, some felt they must violate it. Throughout this book, we'll explore two emerging patterns in American politics. The first is the left's deliberate substitution of political theater in place of any real policy agenda. The second and more disturbing pattern is the use of authoritarian tactics to defeat perceived authoritarianism. We will look at which side poses the real authoritarian threat."

Chaffetz Outlines the Post-Trump American Reality in Which News Was Quickly Replaced by Political Theatre and Little Was As It Appeared to Be

“In Power Grab: The Liberal Scheme to Undermine Trump, the GOP, and Our Republic, Jason Chaffetz takes us along his path toward a disturbing realization. Even as a seasoned political insider, he was taken aback by the post-Trump American reality in which news was quickly replaced by political theatre and little was as it appeared to be. An organic town hall meeting? It’s co-opted through a highly-organized and potentially dangerous scheme to control the narrative. Altruistic-sounding nonprofits? They’re actually creations intended to obscure donors and questionable motives. Chaffetz exposes a seedy world where a dizzying concoction of players work to manipulate the message— and we’re the target. In Power Grab: The Liberal Scheme to Undermine Trump, the GOP, and Our Republic, there are lessons for all of us, if we are willing to open our eyes.” (Sharyl Attkisson)

Readers Will Never Again Take Democratic Narratives at Face Value After Reading Power Grab: The Liberal Scheme to Undermine Trump, the GOP, and Our Republic

Power Grab: The Liberal Scheme to Undermine Trump, the GOP, and Our Republic will leave you wanting more. Long after you’ll be thinking about the implications of what Jason Chaffetz reveals in this stunning new account of Washington D.C. politics. Readers will never again take Democratic narratives at face value. The duplicity, the hypocrisy, and the flippancy with which they sacrifice the very foundational elements of our government must be fought on every level.” (Sara A. Carter)

“Jason Chaffetz has consistently been in the fight and understands first hand just how power hungry the Democrats have become. Chaffetz lays out the case for how and why Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer and their minions will do and say just about anything to tear down and smear hard-working, patriotic Americans that oppose their unrelenting desire to control our lives and press forward with their far-left agenda.” (Sean Hannity)

The Left Wants to Empower Leftist Elites As They Neuter the Citizens

We have the Constitution but the left wants to castrate it, we have the Bill of Rights but the left wants to disempower it. Be careful, be very careful when listening to the dogmatic, polarizing narrative of the left. It is an ugly plan thought out a long time in advance to empower leftist elites as it neuters the citizens. Power Grab: The Liberal Scheme to Undermine Trump, the GOP, and Our Republic is well written with facts to back up the author's points. As Chaffetz states at the end, get involved, engaged and educated.

Political correctness on campus has wrecked the vast majority of our universities, substituting indoctrination for learning and conformity for critical thinking

It is wise to choose a life that empowers, nurtures, inspires and creates happiness, regardless of how badly ones peers may be mucking up their lives due to the pressures of mindless conformity pushed via texting and social networking
It is wise to choose a life that empowers, nurtures, inspires and creates happiness, regardless of how badly ones peers may be mucking up their lives due to the pressures of mindless conformity pushed via texting and social networking

We do not need mindless conformity or liberal collectivism, but we do need community. Cooperation in community can empower and increase the potential for individuality. The naïve notion that there’s an either-or relationship between the two needs to be dispelled. Our Founding Fathers created a document that set up a republic that manifested the best possible balance of rights versus responsibilities, individual versus society, and I versus we. They meant for all this to give us the maximum freedoms possible without stepping on the toes of others. But the individual-society continuum was never looked at as an antagonist relationship. Each empowers the other. See Why Do We Need Communities? and The Responsive Communitarian Platform.

And it is not the conflict between the two but rather the dialectical synthesis of the two—transcending the continuum by the creation of a win-win political entity surpassing any yet known—that made it all work and created the longest living political system on Earth. Those that misunderstand Riesman about his individual-society continuum perspective seem to not actually understand the true nature of the democracy set up by our Founders. It makes one wonder what our high school teachers are up to that are supposed to be teaching this critical civics and democracy stuff that all citizens ought to know! What are they doing instead?

"The first chapter in the book makes the case that a largely out-of-state crowd tried to falsely portray that Utahns 'didn't like what I was doing and how I was doing it' despite his winning more than 70 percent of the vote in 2016, Chaffetz said. 'We got copies of their manuals on how to do this,' he said of what he termed a resistance movement.' . . . There is a significant 'deep state' mentality in some parts of our country,' he [Jason Perry, head of the University of Utah's Hinckley Institute of Politics] said. 'There are a lot of people who subscribe to those theories. I think Utah has its pockets of that as well. I don't know we hear about it as much.'" (Source: New Jason Chaffetz book says he was targeted by Democrats' power grab, Lisa Riley Roche, KSL)

Trump Troll Level: Grand Master

"President Trump’s deft political maneuvers may drive his critics to distraction. They also earn him some accolades from those who parse the president’s style and intent. 'Trump troll level: Grand Master,' writes Scott McKay, a columnist for The American Spectator. 'Along came Donald Trump, who chewed the cover off the political rulebook and proceeded to rip out its pages,' he says, noting that such unorthodox methods 'ended up being more effective than anything on the political market.' Mr. McKay points out that Mr. Trump’s recent tweets citing 'The Squad' of four freshman Democrat congresswoman prompted House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to come to their defense. 'The Democrat leadership immediately, reflexively, lined up behind The Squad after an entire week of slapping them down,' Mr. McKay says, adding that the leadership would now be associated with negative poll numbers that reveal voters are not ready for socialist lawmakers to transform Capitol Hill and the nation. 'None of this bothers the president in the least little bit. He is getting everything he wants out of this imbroglio — and paying absolutely nothing for it. That, friends, is how political 3D chess is played,' Mr. McKay advises." (Source: Jason Chaffetz: Democrats' new level of 'hysteria and misconduct', Jennifer Harper, Washington Times)

This is why Trump will win in 2020—he has made the old guard look like fools, schooling them in how 2020 politics is done. By the time Pelosi and the Squad realizes how badly they've been schooled, Trump will be laughing his way to election victory. People don't want socialists or politically correct haters of everyone who doesn't share their beliefs, or politically inept bunglers, or people who have trouble staying awake, or crooked Hillary. They want successful people who are political Grand Masters.

Barack Obama brought to Washington corrupt Chicago-machine politics of cronyism and corporate payoffs, combined with audacious Alinskyite tactics aimed at dividing Americans and destroying his opponents. To this he added race-bailing, smearing, and fraudulent activities of numerous kinds. Obama's playbook was Saul Alinsky's Rules for Radicals, just like Trump's is being written daily by Trump himself, the political Grand Master. Liberals Channel More Dark Money (54%) Than Conservatives Do (31%)

"Former Republican congressman Jason Chaffetz’s new book, Power Grab: The Liberal Scheme to Undermine Trump, the GOP, and Our Republic, claims that liberals channel more dark money than conservatives do [and it is true] . . . According to Issue One, a nonpartisan group that employs Republicans and Democrats seeking to reduce the influence of money in politics, liberal dark money groups surpassed conservative dark money groups in spending for the first time during 2018 election cycle, when liberal groups constituted 54 percent of all dark money spending and conservative groups constituted 31 percent. Up until that point, conservative dark money groups constituted at least 70 percent of all dark money spending every election cycle since Citizens United. . . . In a recent Wall Street Journal column, Kimberly Strassel wrote about liberal activists and nonprofits funding public policy initiatives. Strassel cites a report from the Capital Research Center about how progressive nonprofits outspend conservative ones." (Source: Who Dominates Dark Money Spending: Democrats Or Republicans?, Kate Patrick, Inside Sources)

"For those seeking to understand how the left has weaponized American institutions in its quest for power, Power Grab: The Liberal Scheme to Undermine Trump, the GOP, and Our Republic by ex-Rep. Jason Chaffetz is required reading. The former congressman from Utah and onetime chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee pulls back the curtain on the money-laundering schemes of the left’s gigantic nonprofits, its use of congressional oversight, and its desire to change voting systems to perpetuate power. . . . Chaffetz demonstrates how the left’s tactics du jour are anything but organic, from the coordinated and preplanned playbook to smear Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh during the confirmation process to large outside groups plotting to disrupt and incite confrontation at local town-hall meetings." Chaffetz Supports the Very Worst Rightwing Ideas

Chaffetz claimed global warming was a 'farce,' but this cow knows just how real it is
Chaffetz claimed global warming was a 'farce,' but this cow knows just how real it is

Here are some really ignorant Chaffetz actions: In 2017, Chaffetz stated that he planned to seek a congressional vote to overturn D.C. legislation allowing terminally ill individuals to end their life. Chaffetz also led the charge in an unsuccessful attempt to overturn the District of Columbia's legalization of same-sex marriage in 2009. Chaffetz claimed global warming was a "farce." He has voted in favor of legislation that would bar the Environmental Protection Agency from regulating greenhouse gases. Chaffetz scored 0% in 2015, and 3% lifetime, on the National Environmental Scorecard of the League of Conservation Voters. Regarding Jakelin Caal Maquin, a seven-year-old girl who died in the custody of US Border Patrol on December 8, 2018, Chaffetz said on Fox News: "That should be the message, don't make this journey, it will kill you."

But he got two things right: Upon hearing that Obama had won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2009, Chaffetz said he had 'lost all respect for the award' and that 'it used to be one of distinction, but [now] it is hard to give it any credibility.' [Obama is the president whose Mideast bungling gave us ISIS.] And the second good move he made was writing Power Grab: The Liberal Scheme to Undermine Trump, the GOP, and Our Republic."
