Resistance (At All Costs): How Trump Haters Are Breaking America
a book by Kimberley Strassel
(our site's book review)
The Amazon blurb says that Wall Street Journal columnist and bestselling author Kim Strassel argues how the all-out "Resistance" has become dangerously reckless in its obstruction of President Trump.
Among the most consistent and aggressive criticisms of Donald Trump is that he is a threat to American democracy -- a human wrecking ball demolishing our most basic values and institutions. Resistance (At All Costs): How Trump Haters Are Breaking America makes the opposite case -- that it is Trump's critics, in their zeal to oppose the president, who are undermining our foundations.
Among the most consistent and aggressive criticisms of Donald Trump is that he is a threat to American democracy -- a human wrecking ball demolishing our most basic values and institutions; this book disagrees
From the FBI's unprecedented counterintelligence investigation into the Trump campaign, to bureaucratic sabotage, to media partisanship, to the drive-by character assassination of Trump nominee Brett Kavanaugh, the president's foes have thrown aside norms, due process and the rule of law.
Resistance (At All Costs): How Trump Haters Are Breaking America shows that the reaction to Trump will prove far more consequential and damaging to our nation long-term than Trump's time in office.
The U.S. Capitol is infested with liberal termites that are eating away at the foundations of democracy
"A rare writer who immediately recognized the deception and corruption fueling the collusion hysteria, Strassel vividly describes the 'Russiagate' hoax as well as the Left's shocking disregard for honesty, integrity, and the rule of law."—Congressman Devin Nunes
"Strassel's courage to stand up to the groupthink of the political media makes her a national treasure. Her fact-filled reporting exposes a simple but hidden truth: The Resistance is violating the norms they claim to care so much about, leaving a lasting and damaging mark on the country."—Mollie Hemingway, senior editor, The Federalist
Fifty years from now, when historians try to understand how America devolved into lunacy, they'll read this book. Nobody's sharper, wiser or more precise than Kim Strassel

Current Democratic presidential candidates are promising to abolish the Electoral College, pack the Supreme Court, confiscate existing firearms, and give sixteen-year-olds the vote
"The problem is instead Democrats who are turning the awesome powers of the House into partisan political weapons. The impeachment power is large and serious. Yet these days, Democrats toss the word around with as much regularity as they do the word 'hearing,' or 'motion' or 'bill.' Holding an executive cabinet member in contempt of Congress is a serious move, yet Democrats slapped Barr with contempt in record time and for no reason other than to score political points. House Democrats have cast aside the usual rules on oversight — ignoring the traditional need to show true 'legislative purpose' and instead demanding documents from Trump from before he was even in office. And current Democratic presidential candidates are promising to abolish the Electoral College, pack the Supreme Court, give sixteen-year-olds the vote, and confiscate existing firearms. Constitutional norms, anyone?" (Source: Kimberley Strassel: How Trump-haters are breaking America (Hint: It begins with THIS), Kimberley A. Strassel, Fox News)
Here is 'the squad,' liberal extremists ready to push radical progressivism on an unsuspecting society
Strassel tells us "In hindsight, House Democratic rule was destined to be wildly over-the-top. Democrats for two years had sloshed through the Resistance fever swamps, accusing Trump of every crime and transgression imaginable. Those Resistance voters were always going to demand that a new House majority act. The pressure from day one on Pelosi & Co. to take it to the White House was enormous. . . . The Resistance fielded far-left candidates and propelled the likes of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (New York), Rashida Tlaib (Michigan), and Ilhan Omar (Minnesota) to victory. While centrists running in crucial districts won Pelosi the gavel, the Democratic House overall looked far more liberal after the election. . . . Resistance Democrats took office baying for blood and have consistently demanded the Democratic leadership bend to their demands."
"There is nothing wrong, Strassel correctly notes, with being a Trump critic. Presidents have always had critics, something that comes with the job. But the spread of a virulent Trump hatred is something quite different, and is, Strassel writes, 'proving far more corrosive to our institutions and rule of law than anything of which it has accused the president.' As she notes, the very term 'the Resistance' is associated throughout history with movements designed to fight 'occupying powers' as, say, the French Resistance came to life to fight the forces of the occupying Nazi Germany. And once one goes down that road, as has the Trump-hating Resistance, the Resisters 'view themselves as justified in taking any action necessary to get rid of the occupier.' . . . Set loose the Department of Justice and the FBI to spy on a presidential campaign? No problem. Ambush a Supreme Court nominee 'with uncorroborated sexual assault allegations'? No problem. Use 'the impeachment process for political retribution'? No big deal." (Source: Resistance, Monty Pelerin, Economic Noise)
Fake news is everywhere
According to a 2018 Axios poll, 72% of Americans believe that “traditional major news sources report news they know to be fake, false or purposely misleading” — including 92% of Republicans and 79% of independents. So the country is so polarized that conservatives trust nothing from the mainstream media but instead head for Fox News, and rightwing websites, blogs, and newsmagazines for their news. Leftists, predictably, do the opposite, with CNN and the New York Times as frequent go-to places for news.
Strassel tells us "But the 'haters' can't abide nuance. To the Resistance, any praise—no matter how qualified—of Trump is tantamount to American betrayal. And by extension, any criticism of the Resistance is equally heretical. If you are a Trump hater, this is an excellent way of shutting down challenges to your tactics or arguments. But it's a rotten way of furthering public debate, and the ensuing vacuum of meaningful discussion has already led the Resistance to overindulge. It is now engaging in behavior that is proving far more corrosive to our institutions and rule of law than anything of which it has accused the president. Indeed, the claim that Trump marks some new or existential threat to the United States is hard to make in light of history. America has had many presidents who attracted deep loathing while in office, even from members of their own party."
Obama tried to be an imperial president who ruled by executive order—he was 'the man who would be king,' and the mainstream media were his sycophants, toadies, and flunkeys at his beck and call
She says the attribution "despot" leveled at Trump is wrong, Obama tried to be an imperial president who ruled by executive order. Obama increased the size of the government while Trump kept his promise to reduce it. Trump appointed judges who believed in the Constitution, while Obama appointed believers in the liberal narrative where political correctness trumped the Constitution. As Strassel tells it, it is not Trump's actions that are so dangerous and alarming, it is the liberals' reactions to them that are so dangerous and alarming.
The radical political resistance mindset explains how the Resistance has gone so far off the rails—those who view their target or his actions as illegitimate view themselves as justified in taking any action necessary to get rid of the occupier
Strassel tells us "The [radical political resistance] mindset nonetheless explains how the Resistance has gone so far off the rails. Those who view their targets or their actions as illegitimate view themselves as justified in taking any action necessary to get rid of the occupier. Whether that be turning the awesome powers of the Department of Justice and the FBI against an unconventional presidential campaign, or ambushing a Supreme Court nominee with uncorroborated sexual-assault allegations, or using the impeachment process for political retribution, the Resistance views itself in the right. But they are not." The Justice department and the FBI are no longer trusted by the public, since they are willing to become an instrument of political retribution.
The Department of Injustice as a political weapon makes the USA little more than a banana republic ruled by demagogues
The Trump haters said it was the end of democracy as we know it. True, but 80% of the anti-democracy actions were done by the liberal fanatics, not the basket of deplorables, Hillary's ill-chosen term for the Trump base
The Trump haters, soon after the election, hopped on the Trump hater train, saturated with anger and denial and plans to undermine the new president in every way short of assassination. CNN and the New York Times hopped on as well, with never a good word to say about the Donald, but buttloads of bad words. As Strassel says, "People wept. People wailed. Anti-Trump protestors in Oakland, California, threw Molotov cocktails and M-80 fire-crackers at police. . . . Oregon, protestors took over the city for most of a week, blocking highways, delaying buses, vandalizing businesses and cars." The Trump haters said it was the end of democracy as we know it. This was true, but 80% of the anti-democracy actions were done by the liberal fanatics, not the basket of deplorables, Hillary's ill-chosen term for the Trump base.
The Trump haters, soon after the election, hopped on the Trump hater train, saturated with anger and denial and plans to undermine the new president in every way short of assassination—this is not how citizens are supposed to act in a democracy!
Trump haters predicted Trump would use surveillance to go after critics, which Obama did but not Trump. Trump haters predicted Trump would use a secret enemies list like Nixon did and that he'd send the IRS and FBI on these targets, which Obama did but not Trump. Jailing whistleblowers? Obama did it mercilessly but not Trump. So the Trump haters' predictions were about what Obama actually did, but not what Trump did. Maybe the Trump hater predictors are using alternative facts rather than reality. Keith Olbermann, a liberal, started looking for others to help fight against the Trump "madness," looking for support in at least "impeding this monster." Having a Trumpenstein running amok in the White House produced a veritable Tweetstorm from the president, which kept Trump noticed constantly, stealing attention from all other news items.
Desperate and hysterical liberals responded to the 2016 election by looking for support in at least 'impeding this monster,' but Trumpenstein was too busy strengthening his brand to care, so he merely verbally sparred with critics on Twitter

This is not a book about why we should all love President Trump. Far from it. It's a book about why we should stop destroying American democracy to achieve partisan revenge. The book shows how politicized the federal bureaucracy has become. And the media has done the same, however much it claims it is fair and balanced. The public has similarly been forced to "pick a side" Those who pick the right will go to Fox News for their confirmation bias, and lefties will find themselves at CNN, MSNBC, and the NY Times. The polarization is the same online.
We are basically two countries, with neither side speaking to the other. They are too angry. If they get even angrier, expect a civil war. See The Coming Civil War. But if we are two countries with two opposite perspectives, why pretend we are one country? For example, while Obozo was president, the conservatives did everything they could to make everything he tried fail. They forced him to use the only thing he could to accomplish anything: issue executive orders. For another example, while Clinton was president, the conservatives did everything they could to make everything he tried fail. They forced him to push things like welfare reform which the left didn't want but the right did. When Dubya was president, liberals stopped everything he tried as well, except make war. It took Cheney's lies about WMDs told on the talk circuit to get the public and the government scared enough to act, which they now (2020) regret they did. The senseless eternal wars are killing this country—our debt has gone into the stratosphere.

Policy makers kept their focus on enhancing American influence, wealth, and power in our past. This seemed like nationalism, and it originally was nationalism, but since the neocons assumed power, that has changed to—you guessed it—another cover story. Although inperialism to build empire is the m.o. of neocons, the actual goal underneath it all is wealth and power accumulation for the neocons themselves and their oligarch buddies. American citizens will not gain but lose in this process—the empire is for the neocons. And if you think that the lion's share of the wealth these neocons will be grabbing and accumulating will originate not in foreign lands but in the wallets of us citizens, you're right! Check out the national debt. This is money WE OWE! See The Neoconserative Threat to World Order: America's Perilous War for Hegemony.
Unless American citizens start defecating money, the debt has put us all in deep doo-doo
The media focuses on a sensationalistic fistfight going on on deck, so the public will fail to notice the wealth of the middle class getting robbed behind the scenes by the corporations and politicians
If all the liberals lived together in the blue states (and told the Bubbas: "get out of here you Bubba-flavored bastards!"), and all the conservatives lived together in the red states (and told the bleeding-hearts: get out of here, you bleeding-heart eggheads!) then we'd obviously need to create three countries: East Liberal-land in the east, West Liberal-land in the west, and Bubba-land in the heartland, with the liberals in New Mexico and Colorado, even though in the majority there, having to choose to move west or east, just like any other red state liberals; and blue state conservatives would shift to the heartland. The Soviet empire underwent devolution into several self-governing countries. Why not us?
The map below shows where the liberals and conservatives are in their 3 countries, but it is BEFORE the liberals in New Mexico and Colorado move east or west, so these two states are initially part of West Liberal-land—BEFORE their move. The reason it would not stay like this is because they would be a liberal island in Bubba-land, surrounded by the conservative hordes. How would YOU like to be surrounded by Bubbas? So they'd move west or east and the Blue island would disappear, and the heartland would be all Red. (Remember to avoid pissing off the citizens of Bubba-land: rumor has it they have a strong affinity for weapons and violence!)
U.S. Devolved Into Three Countries
This book exposes the astonishing, clandestine efforts of the Deep State, the Never-Trumpers, and the media, to defeat Trump’s election, and, subsequently, remove him from office, “at all costs”. The ugly activities vividly described in Resistance (At All Costs): How Trump Haters Are Breaking America, should never, ever, happen in America. They should never happen anywhere! They are, however, happening right now, as you’re reading this. Someone once said that the best defense against tyranny is an informed citizenry, and vigilance is the price of liberty. Strassel is a truly great patriot for informing us of this pivotal moment in our history. Take advantage of the monumental effort she and her team have made to render us an informed citizenry.
This book exposes the astonishing, clandestine, efforts of the Deep State, the Never-Trumpers, and the media, to defeat Trump’s election, and, subsequently, remove him from office, 'at all costs' (so he has reasons to be paranoid)
Resistance (At All Costs): How Trump Haters Are Breaking America effectively exposes the way liberals are coordinating their attacks on not just Trump, but every person/institution that gets in the way of their plans for controlling this country and the way we live. Strassel's book makes you realize just how close we are to being overtaken by a bunch of people who believe that they and only they should be in charge of running this country. Liberal elites are out to control you like in 1984. Stop them now or forever lose your freedom. Remember that most Progressives do not want to discuss their ideas, preferring rather to attempt to silence opposing views.

No wonder Kimberley Strassel was rapidly promoted to the editorial board of the Wall Street Journal. She is such a clear communicator. Resistance (At All Costs): How Trump Haters Are Breaking America contains a lot of great content. Strassel has done a wonderful research effort. She organized the book's material into eleven well-defined chapters. Each chapter describes a part of the overall 'progressive' campaign to defeat President Trump in order to save the radical establishment from his efforts to dismantle it. Trump is right: we don't need a deep state or radical establishment interfering in American democracy. The Founders gave us the Constitution and Bill of Rights. We don't need a radical establishment reinterpretation, nor do we need the politically correctness amendments or socialistic amendments that leftists will strive for, however much they pervert our democracy into something warped or naive.
Resistance against Trump's unfair tax program and against his sellout of the climate change disaster-in-the-making is warranted. But the Left's anti-Trump hysteria and their election nullification attempts and their witchhunt and their warped effort to lynch Brett Kavanaugh shows that morals and sanity and legality have been flushed down the toilet by these fanatics, and the words and warnings of the Founders with them. You liberals lost the election—get over yourselves!

"The press has embraced its bias, joined the Resistance and declared its allegiance to one side of a partisan war. It now openly declares those who offer any fair defense of this administration as Trump 'enablers.' It writes off those who question the FBI or Department of Justice actions in 2016 as 'conspiracy' theorists. . . . The FBI’s Trump-Russia investigation fell clearly into a government-abuse-of-power story, of the kind the press exists to expose. It came laden with red flags — opposition research from the rival campaign, backdoor channels to the IRS, surveillance of American citizens. And yet anything the former people of power told the press to write, the press wrote. . . . The press gets furious when Trump talks about 'fake news.' But what else would you call this? . . . What has defined the media breakdown that started in 2016 was the press’ abandonment of standards in aid of peddling a narrative — rather than reality." The Resistance is so full of hate and anger that they are ready to flush our country down the drain if Trump drowns as part of the deal—this is how toddlers think when they are not getting their way!
"[Strassel's] stinging critique of the anti-Trump establishment hits its targets often enough to pose a bracing challenge to mainstream political narratives."—Publishers Weekly
". . . in terms of real wreckage to institutions, I mean, it’s not on Donald Trump that public faith in the FBI and the Department of Justice has precipitously fallen. That’s because of Jim Comey and Andy McCabe. It’s not on Donald Trump that the Senate confirmation process for the Supreme Court is in ashes after what happened to Brett Kavanaugh. It’s not on Donald Trump that we are turning impeachment into a partisan political tool. . . . [liberals] want the rules changed, so that they get in power and stay in power. And I find that deeply disturbing. . . . I think one of the other things the media has done … which is really unfortunate as we are meant to be the protectors and defenders of free speech. Instead, we have seen the media actively engage in a campaign to de-legitimize anybody who has a different viewpoint than they do or who is reporting the facts and the story in a way other than they would like them to be presented." Kim Strassel gives us an alarming look at how the Left, once the champion of civil liberties, is today orchestrating a coordinated campaign to bully Americans out of free speech, especially pro-Trump speech
Thank-you Ms. Strassel for having the courage to tell the truth in the face of real threats from the leftist fascists. Resistance (At All Costs): How Trump Haters Are Breaking America is a must-read. By October 2019, President Trump had tweeted about Strassel or retweeted her commentary more than 20 times, including calling for a Pulitzer Prize for her—and he is right!
