The Amazon blurb says that USA Today Bestseller!
New York Times bestselling author Sharyl Attkisson takes on the media’s misreporting on Black Lives Matter, coronavirus, Joe Biden, Silicon Valley censorship, and more.
When the facts don’t fit their Narrative, the media abandons the facts, not the Narrative. Virtually every piece of information you get through the media has been massaged, shaped, curated, and manipulated before it reaches you. Some of it is censored entirely. The news can no longer be counted on to reflect all the facts. Instead of telling us what happened yesterday, they tell us what’s new in the prepackaged soap opera they’ve been calling the news.
For the past four years, five-time Emmy Award–winning investigative journalist and New York Times bestselling author Sharyl Attkisson has been collecting and dissecting alarming incidents tracing the shocking devolution of what used to be the most respected news organizations on the planet. For the first time, top news executives and reporters representing every major national television news outlet—from ABC, CBS, NBC, and CNN to FOX and MSNBC—speak frankly, confiding in Attkisson about the death of the news as they once knew it. Their concern transcends partisan divides.
Most frightening of all, a broad campaign in the media has convinced many Americans not only to accept but to demand censorship over journalism. It is a stroke of genius on the part of those seeking to influence public opinion: undermine public confidence in the news, then insist upon “curating” information and divining the “truth.” The thinking is done for you. They’ll decide which pesky facts shouldn’t cross your desk by declaring them false, irrelevant, debunked, unsafe, or out-of-bounds.
Attkisson explains why we are getting slanted news to such a degree we are choking on misinformation
We have reached a state of utter absurdity, where journalism schools teach students that their own, personal truth or chosen narratives matter more than reality. In Slanted: How the News Media Taught Us to Love Censorship and Hate Journalism, Attkisson digs into the language of propagandists, the persistence of false media narratives, the driving forces behind today's dangerous blend of facts and opinion, the abandonment of journalism ethics, and the new, Orwellian definition of what it means to report the news.
We live in an age of the abandonment of journalism ethics, and the new, Orwellian definition of what it means to report the news—parroting only news that fits with the liberal narrative
Sharyl Attkisson, one of the few investigative journalists with the guts to tell it like it is, including standing up to the leftwing press—this country needs 1000 more like her!

"The news outlets with a purported left bias include the Associated Press, Reuters, the American television networks ABC, NBC/CNBC, and CBS, The New York Times, The Washington Post, CNN, NPR, Politico, and USA Today." [She forgot OPB.] (Source: Sharyl Attkisson, Wikipedia)
"The national media has been on a long path of replacing straight news with a biased, liberal narrative pushed by executives and TV anchors, but it came to a crescendo with President Trump, according to [Attkisson,] an award-winning journalist.
Walter Cronkite’s integrity is no longer the model to emulate—fake news reporters are the new model for the left and reporters reacting harshly to the ugly fake news reporting is the rightwing model
"Once eager to live up to straight-reporting Walter Cronkite’s 'That's the way it is' motto, former CBS investigative journalist Sharyl Attkisson said that ethical and bias standards have been junked in the media’s war on Trump, led by CNN and the New York Times.
The media have unsheathed all their daggers to destroy Donald Trump
"'Today, things are different. The media have unsheathed all their daggers to destroy Donald Trump,' she wrote in her upcoming book, Slanted: How the News Media Taught Us to Love Censorship and Hate Journalism.
"In her book from HarperCollins Publishers, due for a Thanksgiving week release, Attkisson charts what many in the industry have seen going back to the Reagan administration, a growing urge by news executives, and eventually reporters, to push a liberal bias." The mainstream media crowd, the FBI, academia, Hollywood—all have hopped aboard the Trump hate train—he insulted their precious political correctness and identity politics scams
"MICHELLE OBAMA, on Americans: “They watch in horror as children are torn from their families and thrown into cages. . . . THE FACTS: The reference to cages is misleading and a matter that Democrats have persistently distorted. Trump used facilities that were built during the Obama-Biden administration to house children at the border. . . . At the height of the controversy over Trump’s zero-tolerance policy at the border, photos that circulated online of children in the enclosures generated great anger. But those photos — by The Associated Press — were taken in 2014 and depicted some of the thousands of unaccompanied children held by President Barack Obama.” (Source: AP FACT CHECK: Michelle Obama and the kids in ‘cages’, CALVIN WOODWARD and HOPE YEN, AP News)
Note the hypocrisy. The pictures of Obama's cages would never have been published while Obozo was president. When Trump was elected, the hypocritical mainstream press went out of their way to demonize him, including showing Obama's cages and having MICHELLE OBAMA hollering at Trump about it.
The hypocritical mainstream press went out of their way to demonize Trump, including showing Obama's cages and having MICHELLE OBAMA hollering at Trump about it; did the press correct their mistake? Did Michelle? The question answers itself!
Claim: Says the Obama administration "didn't lock people up in cages."

As Attkisson says, "Once a narrative is successfully established, a great deal of effort
must be put into cultivating it. Contrary views, facts, and science must
be shoved down the memory hole—disappeared—as though they had
"Accomplishing this propaganda feat in the information age requires a great deal of coordination. That includes campaigns to convince the public at large to embrace the once unthinkable notion that their news should be curated by third parties. It includes well-funded 'media literacy' efforts to brainwash—er, teach—us and our children whom to believe and whom to tune out. It includes infiltrating our universities and public schools. It includes proposing laws that promote censorship and turn free speech on its head, creating policies that result in narrowing the universe of available information, and plain old bullying of those who don't obediently dance in step behind the appointed Pied Piper. The news is being used to accomplish all of these things.
Liberals use plain old bullying of those who don't obediently dance in step behind the appointed Pied Piper
"When 'the news' is utilized to further narratives, it requires us
to deviate seriously from fact-based reporting. The Narrative may
require that information be presented in a slanted fashion or that
facts be taken out of context. And, of course, it may involve reporting
entirely false material. Unfortunately, that's become quite the trend.
And that’s perhaps the biggest modern victory of The Narrative.
"There is an important component of The Narrative when it advances political interests: it is always presented as nonpolitical. Any version of events that counters The Narrative is called partisan spin."
"Sharyl has an uncanny knack to see the kernel of truth in the most convoluted story. In Slanted, she applies those skills to one of the biggest stories of our time: manipulation of information in the media. Democracies depend on an informed public. However, the public cannot learn about without fearless and honest reporting. Slanted is just that." -- Marcel Reid, Whistleblower Summit and Film Festival
“Sharyl Attkisson left CBS News in search of a place that would not keep suppressing her work. She speaks from experience about the bias that dominates much of the news media today, and she writes about it with clarity and authority. Her latest book is a most interesting read.” -- Brit Hume
“From ‘mostly-peaceful protests’ to ignoring the lies that led to the Mueller investigation, the media increasingly gives us only the facts they want us to hear, packaged into the stories they need us to believe. Nobody explains this new dynamic better than Sharyl Attkisson. Throughout Slanted she exposes, based on speaking first hand with people at places she used to work, what is really happening at the biggest names in media. Prepared to be shocked and dismayed. It truly is worse than you think." -- Jason Chaffetz
"Sharyl Attkisson is a force - and one of the bravest people I know. Those working to destroy journalism wield staggering power and the number of us willing to take them on are few. But she is one of them and she does it with meticulous investigative journalism, systematically breaking down the lies and exposing the ‘liars.'" -- Lara Logan
"For decades now, Sharyl Attkisson has deftly navigated the world of establishment journalism, refusing to kowtow to ephemeral trends or prevailing biases, cutting through the noise from the bipartisan propaganda machine inside the D.C. beltway. Her latest efforts in Slanted remind us that while censorship and disinformation campaigns are nothing new in our history, the realm of social media and so-called fact-checkers has added another layer to the deception." -- Mickey Huff; director of Project Censored and president of the Media Freedom Foundation; Chair of Journalism, Diablo Valley College
In her marvelous book Slanted: How the News Media Taught Us to Love Censorship and Hate Journalism, Attkinson interviews numerous insiders (who mostly describe themselves as progressives) and gets their assessment on the death of journalism.
In summary, Sharyl Attkisson maps the degeneration of mainstream news from truth-seeking to pandering to the liberal Narrative. If she tried to be balanced or present both sides of the question, she was stopped from presenting the conservative side and pushed to give the liberal viewpoint only. They didn't want investigative journalism. They merely wanted to present the appearance of investigative journalism. In other words—fake news. Trump had been telling the truth about the mainstream media's oozing with fake news and pushing the liberal agenda. When Attkisson worked for CBS, she was assigned stories that would show that the liberal Narrative was the right viewpoint, and the conservatives were liars, mistaken, stupid, ignorant, biased, or even evil. She was a propagandist, not a reporter. She, however, unlike her coworkers, had too much integrity to sell out so brazenly. So she quit.
The mainstream media does not want or tolerate watchdogs . . .
The mainstream media only wants lapdogs
Watchdogs are punished or censored, but whistleblowers are destroyed; one of the bravest heroes alive is Edward Snowden, who will probably end up having to stay in Russia forever simply because he embarrassed Obozo and revealed him as a liar
Messengers of alternative viewpoints and contrary opinions were smeared, censored, harrassed, oppressed, and intimidated. In today's world of woke, virtue-signalling phonies, she has been canceled for being a nonconformist unwilling to sell out. Bernays' major coup, the one that really propelled him into fame in the late 1920s, was getting women to smoke. Women didn't smoke in those days and he ran huge campaigns for Chesterfield
As Attkisson has proven, journalism and the media are simply tools that powerful players use to dictate what others may know and think. Mind control doesn't require stereotypical brainwashing, but merely the propaganda techniques discovered by Edward Bernays, and published in 1928 as Propaganda. Hitler read the book and used these ideas liberally to grab power in pre-WWII Germany. Bernays' major coup, the one that really propelled him into fame in the late 1920s, was getting women to smoke. Women didn't smoke in those days and he ran huge campaigns for Chesterfield. You know all the techniques—models and movie stars with cigarettes coming out of their mouths and that kind of thing. He got enormous praise for that. The breast cancer and lung cancer doctors owe the guy a lot for all the business he sent their way.
Mind control doesn't require stereotypical brainwashing, but merely the propaganda techniques discovered by Edward Bernays a century ago, in which information—true or false—is repeated endlessly until people assumed it must be true
Many consumers are TV zombies who find it unnecessary to think for themselves—it is easier to simply let the TV, media, internet, social media platform, etc., do it FOR you
Orwell may have scared the bejesus out of us with his 1984, but it didn't stop the powers-that-be from creating the 1984 reality anyway: the world of 2020
The government prefers we don't notice what is really going on, so it distracts us so that instead of seeing through all their facades, we are instead chasing shiny objects
Bernays tells us: "Propaganda is the executive arm of the invisible government. . . . an organized effort to spread a particular belief or doctrine." If it is about lying, like most of politics in the 21st century, propaganda is a deception technique. If it is about advertising, mass influencing is a necessary evil.
Privacy is gone. Truth is compromised. Propaganda is the norm. The news is biased infotainment with a political axe to grind. But the real news about what our military is doing around the world (in their Perpetual State of War) is censored, with empire building as the reality, but the War on Terror as the cover story. We learn what they want us to learn—to learn the real story, you must abandon the bought-and-paid-for mainstream media and consult alternative websites like Alternet.org or the site you are now on.
We are entering an Orwellian world, a world of make-believe composed by those with influence who are eager to send the Thought Police if our words or thoughts do not conform to the liberal Narrative
We are entering an Orwellian world, a world of make believe composed by those with influence. For Attkisson, those people are media personalities. She begins with her own personal journey in the 1990s and early 21st century and she brings us many personal experiences to illustrate her Slanted: How the News Media Taught Us to Love Censorship and Hate Journalism thesis. The book reads like a kind of journalistic adventure with sober warnings that this has been going on for decades and shows no signs of turning around as media is an international issue. There is some hope however. She ends the book with names of personalities and media organizations that are worthy of our respect.
The once reputable New York Times finally burned up what was left of its integrity and published the ugly racism piece called the 1619 Project (see 1620: A Critical Response to the 1619 Project), showing itself to be even more agenda driven than even Attkisson proclaims.
The gloves are off, and any pretense of objectivity is not only gone but scoffed at in the Newsrooms of ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox and the posh corporate boardrooms of Google, Twitter, and Facebook. To look that 500-lb. gorilla in the face and call them out—that is bravery. And that makes Attkisson a hero 100 times over. Everyone should take the time to read this great book. Free flow of information is fundamental to a functioning democratic republic. If the information is controlled, manipulated or censored (like today), freedom and liberty cannot exist. See Democracy—an American Delusion.
How does one take a banana (power) away from a 500-lb. gorilla? (Answer: very carefully!)
