United States of Socialism: Who's Behind It. Why It's Evil. How to Stop It.

a book by Dinesh D'Souza

(our site's book review)

Today’s Socialists Claim to Model Themselves on the “Socialism That Works” in Scandinavia, but the Truth Is They're Opting for the Ugly Venezuelan Socialism Model

The Amazon blurb says that The New York Times, USA Today, Publishers Weekly, and Wall Street Journal Bestseller

For those who witnessed the global collapse of socialism, its resurrection in the twenty-first century comes as a surprise, even a shock. How can socialism work now when it has never worked before?

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

In this pathbreaking book, bestselling author Dinesh D’Souza argues that the socialism advanced today by the likes of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Bernie Sanders, Ilhan Omar and Elizabeth Warren is very different from the socialism of Lenin, Mao and Castro. It is “identity socialism,” a marriage between classic socialism and identity politics. Today’s socialists claim to model themselves not on Mao’s Great Leap Forward or even Venezuelan socialism but rather on the “socialism that works” in Scandinavian countries like Norway and Sweden.

Bernie Sanders
Bernie Sanders

This is the new face of socialism that D’Souza confronts and decisively refutes with his trademark incisiveness, wit and originality. He shows how socialism abandoned the working class and found new recruits by drawing on the resentments of race, gender and sexual orientation. He reveals how it uses the Venezuelan, not the Scandinavian, formula. D’Souza chillingly documents the full range of lawless, gangster, and authoritarian tendencies that they have adopted.

United States of Socialism: Who's Behind It. Why It's Evil. How to Stop It. is an informative, provocative and thrilling exposé not merely of the ideas but also the tactics of the socialist Left. In making the moral case for entrepreneurs and the free market, the author portrays President Trump as the exemplar of capitalism and also the most effective political leader of the battle against socialism. He shows how we can help Trump defeat the socialist menace.

The Left's Socialism Model Will Eventually Collapse into Feudalism and Tyranny Once the Liberals' Theories Prove Inadequate to the Task of Resources Management

D’Souza says that ". . . monarchy was transcended without ever being completely refitted. Similarly, the feudal system was basically transcended by the capitalist system, as Marx himself recognized. Feudalism couldn't compete with capitalism, so feudalism was defeated without being discredited on its own terms. Feudal societies, like monarchies, 'worked' for many centuries before their eventual demise. None of this can be said about socialism. It is an utterly discredited system of ideas, like slavery, and it was discredited in a much shorter period. Slavery lasted for centuries—even millennia—before it was recognized as a thoroughly wicked and tyrannical regime of human exploitation. Socialism, which dates back to 1917, when Lenin founded the world's first socialist state, has had a much shorter shelf life."

The ruling elites in the United States of Socialism plan to be the leaders in the elite, not one of the feudal slaves. They want power out of one side of their face, equality for the sheeple out of the other

The simplist way to understand the leftists' view of United States of Socialism, where “identity socialism,” a marriage between classic socialism and identity politics, rules the left's roost, is to see the liberal elites as droolingly greedy, they want power at any cost. So they check all the right, politically correct, boxes in speeches proposing a socialistic utopia of complete equality. Once idiots on the left are lulled into complacency, sure that they will be TAKEN CARE OF by the liberal elites running for office, they vote for them. The trouble is, the elites are lying through their hypocritical teeth. They want power for themselves, and their words about equality and taking care of the citizens are simply the words of hypnotists who know how to get citizens to do as they wish them to do. Putting liberal elites in power is the goal, and all the pretty words are simply manipulations. The country the elites envision is to be a utopia of socialistic equality, with the tiny exception of the elites running it—who will slowly evolve into an aristocrisy of the powerful elites lording it over the sheeple. It will be the new Feudalism—serfs carrying royalty. Royalty who will quickly opt for totalitarianism once the sheeple start rebelling against the sham of slavery with an equality label on it.

Sheep getting sheared—like what is happening in the U.S. to the middle class and below while elite politicians and oligarchs chuckle, then laugh all the way to the bank

The Ruling Elites in the United States of Socialism Plan to Be the Leaders in the Elite, but in the Back of Their Minds Is a Picture of Themselves As Royalty

Is the corrupt Russian Kleptocracy any different from this? At first the sheep in that country were led into the illusion that they would experience freedom, rights, and even democracy. But then the powers-that-be that pretended to have turned over a new leaf decided to be emperors and the poor sheep got sheared. And other countries are watching with great trepidation as this same sheep shearing occurs in the U.S., and the only difference is that those in charge in the U.S. are doing it more slowly and covertly so as not to scare anyone or show their true colors too quickly so that a rebellion starts up. Lenin's socialism in the USSR was experienced by the citizens as a form of slavery, and they hated it. Who DIDN'T hate it? The communist party elites who lived the good life. The people had a saying: we pretend to work and they pretend to pay us. The ruling elites in the United States of Socialism plan to be the leaders in the elite, not one of the feudal slaves. They want power out of one side of their face, "equality for the sheeple" out of the other.

Progressive elites are two-faced; they want power out of one side of their face, 'equality for the sheeple' out of the other

D’Souza says that to compare capitalistic and socialistic nations, Korea is best. Same people and culture, each tried a new way, with radically different results. "The Korean example is even more telling, in part because the separation of the two societies has lasted longer and continues to this day. South Korea now is more than 20 times richer than North Korea, a difference manifested in virtually all indicators of human welfare. South Koreans are obviously freer than North Koreans; South Koreans are also taller, healthier and live about 12 years longer than North Koreans. Every year many thousands of North Koreans risk their lives seeking to escape to South Korea."

When Questioned About the Green New Deal, Liberals Say Look at the Science, but When Questioned About the Fact That Socialism Has Been Proven to Not Work, Liberals Say No Amount of Scientific Data Can Refute a Dream (Which Their Feelings Tell Them Will Work)

D’Souza continues "The conservatives and libertarians keep chanting, 'Socialism doesn't work,' and they produce charts and tables to prove it. The socialists glance over the charts and tables, and then they clamor for more socialism. They don't care about data, because no amount of data can refute a dream. The socialist mantra is, 'We don't care if it hasn't worked. We will figure out a way to make it work.'"

The road to hell is paved with good intentions, not to mention stupid intentions
The road to hell is paved with good intentions, not to mention stupid intentions

This reminds us of how the liberals have burdened America with an endless stream of good-intentioned programs in their efforts to socially engineer a just and equitable society that takes care of its own. However, the road to hell is paved with good intentions, not to mention stupid intentions. The programs don't work, are unfair, and have the one major result of delivering money into the hands of elite administrators, with the recipients getting little of value. The fact of poor results has never made the liberals discard their programs. These bleeding-heart busybodies simply go on to designing even more programs to burden the taxpayer with—results be damned. The incredibly naïve social engineers involved in all this actually evaluated social programs on the basis of the goodness of intentions, never once considering the goodness of results! What Matters to These Activists, Reared by Marxist Social Theory, Isn’t Liberty or Freedom — It’s Power

"What matters to these activists, reared by the forces of Marxist social theory, isn’t liberty or freedom — it’s power. . . . 'Civil discourse is the language of the oppressor' . . . Now, it’s students themselves demanding speech to be repressed, and I think this has a lot to do with the education they receive in grades K–12; specifically, not being taught the value of free speech in a liberal society. . . . To combat cancel culture and political hegemony, it is crucial to provide individuals — the building blocks of any culture we praise or fault — with the will to preserve free speech, as well as with the freedom to speak out. The consequences if this mission fails need not be enumerated." (Source: The State of Free Speech on College Campuses Is Dreadful, Dmitri Solzhenitsyn, National Review)

If the leftists get their way, every memory and document (e.g., the Constitution) related to our Evil White Male Founders will be flushed down the toilet, and free speech will apply only to liberals, not conservatives

The Wall Street Journal Editorial Board Said It Will Not Bend to the Progressive Cancel Culture; It Is Heartwarming to See the WSJ Act So Wisely and Bravely!

"The Wall Street Journal editorial board took a swipe at The New York Times in a note to readers Thursday night, saying it will not bend to the 'progressive cancel culture' sweeping the country. . . . our opinion pages offer an alternative to the uniform progressive views that dominate nearly all of today’s media. . . . As long as our proprietors allow us the privilege to do so, the opinion pages will continue to publish contributors who speak their minds within the tradition of vigorous, reasoned discourse,' they concluded. 'And these columns will continue to promote the principles of free people and free markets, which are more important than ever in what is a culture of growing progressive conformity and intolerance.'" Karl Marx should have left his ivory tower occasionally and found out how real people act. His socialist theories worked great on paper, but not so good in real life. Scientific fact #1: people work better if they get rewarded (i.e., capitalism)

D'Souza tells us that climate change fear is the ruse needed to get the public to sign on to full socialism. When the commies tried socialism, which involved people motivated to work hard for the good of the collective, it turned out that rather than working hard, comrades began hardly working. The problem turned out to be motivation—you didn't get more if you worked harder or less if you worked less hard. So it was only suckers that worked hard. Karl Marx should have left his ivory tower occasionally and found out how real people act. His socialist theories worked great on paper, but not so good in real life. Scientific fact #1: people work better if they get rewarded (i.e., capitalism), and being part of a collective that is working at something is simply too abstract a motive to push anyone to work hard.

The American Dream Is That If You Work Hard You Can Get Ahead and Succeed, but the Socialist Plan Kills Such Dreams—We Will All Work Hard to Keep the Elites Wealthy, While Elites Claim Things Are Getting More Equitable

The American Dream is that if you work hard you can get ahead and succeed, getting your slice of the American Pie
The American Dream is that if you work hard you can get ahead and succeed, getting your slice of the American Pie; see Guilty By Reason of Insanity: Why The Democrats Must Not Win

The American Dream is that if you work hard you can get ahead and succeed, not that if you work hard you can watch your community and your country avoid starvation. So commies motivated with fear of various kinds and it all became very oppressive and unpleasant and authoritarian. You might notice that the leftist activists are doing the same—being very oppressive and unpleasant and authoritarian to anyone who thinks for himself, has any non-PC ideas, shares any conservative (therefore evil and 'racist'—which is poppycock) ideas, etc. In short, these fascists are telling people to do what they say or they'll be cancelled and oppressed and punished. They don't call it tyranny or fascism when they act tyrannically. They are just VERY VERY VERY sure that they are right (even though they are not right) and the evil conservatives are wrong. They have been indoctrinated—rather than taught—in high school and college, and they were prevented from thinking for themselves. That is why they all sound like hypnotized, dogma-spouting automatons.

D'Souza Tells Us That Socialism Is the Temptation to Annihilate One's Conscience by Feeling Justified in Living Off Other People's Work

D'Souza tells us that socialism is the temptation to annihilate one's conscience by feeling justified in living off other people's work. Some would call it rationalizing one's temptation to exploit others and become a lazy good-for-nothing. Philip Slater says that the economic inequity in America is one of the greatest threats to democracy, but the liberal solution of economic redistribution through progressive taxation needs to always be combined with the conservative one of empowering economic opportunity for those in need. (A caricature of economic redistribution currently occurring is our massive food stamps program, in which the government has hired people to go around the country trying to sign up as many people to the food stamp program as possible, the end result being that many of these new enrollees are no longer looking for jobs like they had been! The "economic redistribution" then becomes, perversely, from those of us who work our tails off to those of us who merely goof off.)

'Work? Hell no—I've got food stamps!'
"Work? Hell no—I've got food stamps!"

Socialists are lousy at doing work, but prolific at creating envy and entitlement. They insist there should be an administrative class (them) to run things smoothly while the real workers sweat and strive. They will stop hate speech (stop conservatives and alt-right from speaking at all but when the lefties lob hate grenades at the Right or the President, no leftist stops anything—hypocrisy much?) and create equality (by redistribution, the progressives' wild card). See Guilty By Reason of Insanity: Why The Democrats Must Not Win.

"Socialism . . . will always fail. And that’s because it’s a flawed system based on completely faulty principles that aren’t consistent with human behavior and can’t nurture the human spirit. . . . Socialism is the Big Lie of the twentieth century. While it promised prosperity, equality, and security, it delivered poverty, misery, and tyranny. Equality was achieved only in the sense that everyone was equal in his or her misery. . . . The failure of socialism in countries around the world can be traced to one critical defect: it is a system that ignores incentives." (Source: Why socialism always fails, Mark J. Perry, American Enterprise Institute)

Our own voters elected Donald Trump. And he is far from the first illiberal demagogue who ever achieved political success in American history. Liberal Democrats should carefully consider what would happen if someone like Trump gets control of the levers of power in a democratic socialist state where the federal government controls most of the economy

"Unfortunately, the democratic element of democratic socialism is unlikely to save us from the severe risks of the socialist part. Voters in democratic systems can and do elect dangerous demagogues. Hugo Chavez was democratically elected.

"Closer to home, our own voters elected Donald Trump. And he is far from the first illiberal demagogue who ever achieved political success in American history. Liberal Democrats should carefully consider what would happen if someone like Trump gets control of the levers of power in a democratic socialist state where the federal government controls most of the economy.

"The danger of future demagogues aside, it is far from clear that even our current crop of democratic socialist leaders is immune to illiberal temptations. Bernie Sanders, our most prominent socialist politician, has a long history of supporting authoritarian socialist regimes abroad. He and others might not be averse to using the same sorts of tactics at home, if the opportunity arose." (Source: Perils of "Democratic Socialism", Ilya Somin, Reason)
