A Conservative's Lament
an article in Utne Reader by Charlotte Allen
(our site's article review)
She says conservatives have neglected the important social and economic issues they are supposed to address. Conservatives should collaborate with liberals in issues concerning environmentalism, consumerism, small business, farms, cultural diversity, drug regulations, sexual harassment and foreign policy. However, she also believes that a conversation with a liberal is a minefield of political-correctness booby traps.

Conservatives' view of liberal: A conversation with a liberal is a minefield of political-correctness booby traps
She believes that with liberals, the personal is always the political, and vice versa. "The problem is this: We conservatives think liberals are silly; they think we're evil," she opined in an op-ed piece in the LA Times.

Liberal view of conservatives: evil
Other pieces she has written report on studies that show liberal bias of news reporting. Of course, she never mentioned Fox News, or the television host, author, syndicated columnist and political commentator named Bill O'Reilly, or the talk radio star Rush Limbaugh and the other right-wing talk show hosts that dominate the airwaves. So does that demonstrate conservative bias of reporting on the liberal bias of news reporting? Whatever—the conservative/liberal bias argument is not worth thinking about. The only certain, irrefutable, perpetual and insidious bias in reporting comes not so much from conservative or liberal agendas, P.A.C.s or politicians but from the corporatocracy itself, which makes an all-out effort to stay covert and invisible to the unsuspecting citizen. See Freedom of the Press—an American Delusion.

The little guy (most of us) getting screwed by the corporatocracy, but the media avoids seeing it

Fox News, Bill O'Reilly, Rush Limbaugh and the other right-wing talk show hosts dominate the airwaves, in spite of Allen's claims of liberal bias
