One of the attractions of Obama in 2008 was his tone and countenance, his willingness to engage seriously in the issues and toss out the bitter and brittle politics of all. He said we should “resist the temptation to fall back on the same partisanship and pettiness and immaturity that has poisoned our politics for so long.” And millions of Americans were proud to support such a man. But then something happened to the Obama presidency, something very disappointing. Obama stopped being the president he said he would be. And now a very real sense of regret is settling in. On April 20, the website keepinggophonest.com [we confirmed this on the waybackmachine] published a post titled “Behind the curtain: A brief history of Romney’s donors.” Keepinggophonest.com was launched in 2012 as one of the three components of the Obama reelection campaign’s “Truth Team.” . . . While the stated goal of this effort was fact checking Republicans’ claims about their own record, the post was used to publicly identify and smear eight private individuals—rich Mitt Romney donors. Each name was then tweeted out by the @TruthTeam2012 twitter handle with similar charges, and the list was also disseminated by email to a grassroots network of Truth Team volunteers—calling on their vast grassroots volunteers. The end result was a deluge of reprisals against private citizens. Obama was happy to smile to Romney's face, but smear and intimidate Romney's donors behind his back, a level to which no politico since Nixon has stooped.

Former House Minority Leader John Boehner was repulsed by Obama's references to political opponents as "enemies," so he replied to Obozo, saying: "Ladies and gentlemen, we have a president in the White House who referred to Americans who disagree with him as 'our enemies.'
