Reading The Market With Faith Popcorn
our take on an interview by Dan Cullen
(our site's interview review)
Dan Cullen is or was an interviewer from Director Information Dept., American Booksellers Association. His interview was with Faith Popcorn, the author of The Popcorn Report : Faith Popcorn on the Future of Your Company, Your World, Your Life, one of the most famous trend analysis books. In it she—among other things—looks at the dangers in our world that are leading to a siege mentality, and to cocooning, which is to say staying home for safety and security and trying to avoid going out and encountering the risks in the cruel world. People worry about terrorism, germs, crazies, etc. This leads more people to go online to satisfy needs rather than going outside.
Cocooning is staying home for safety and security and avoiding the risks in the cruel world
Another interview with her also concluded that as a sign of the times, Popcorn has updated her cocooning prediction—she’s now calling it an armored cocoon, complete with security and alarm systems. This was Mazing into the Crystal Ball in Antwerp by Luc Deschrijver at Belgium's Cybercom.
