Stonewalled: My Fight for Truth Against the Forces of Obstruction, Intimidation, and Harassment in Obama's Washington
a book by Sharyl Attkisson
(our site's book review)
"There just aren’t that many people in the world who will gamble with their entire career in order to stick by the truth – but Sharyl Attkisson is one of those few. In a world of lapdog journalists – doing their overlord’s bidding – Sharyl is the tip of the spear in true investigative journalism." In a world of lapdog journalists – doing their overlord’s bidding – Sharyl is the tip of the spear in true investigative journalism
Seasoned CBS reporter Sharyl Attkisson reveals how she has been electronically surveilled while digging deep into the Obama Administration and its scandals, and offers an incisive critique of her industry and the shrinking role of investigative journalism in today’s media.
Americans are at the mercy of powerful figures in business and government who are virtually unaccountable. The Obama Administration in particular has broken new ground in its monitoring of journalists, intimidation and harassment of opposition groups, and surveillance of private citizens.
Sharyl Attkisson has been a journalist for more than thirty years. During that time she has exposed scandals and covered controversies under both Republican and Democratic administrations. She has also seen the opponents of transparency go to ever greater lengths to discourage and obstruct legitimate reporting.
Most sources stonewalled her when she was investigating Obama
Attkisson herself has been subjected to “opposition research” efforts and spin campaigns. These tactics increased their intensity as she relentlessly pursued stories that the Obama Administration dismissed. Stonewalled: My Fight for Truth Against the Forces of Obstruction, Intimidation, and Harassment in Obama's Washington is the story of how her news reports were met with a barrage of PR warfare tactics, including online criticism, as well as emails and phone calls up the network chain of command in an effort to intimidate and discourage the next story. In Stonewalled: My Fight for Truth Against the Forces of Obstruction, Intimidation, and Harassment in Obama's Washington, Attkisson recounts her personal tale, setting it against the larger story of the decline of investigative journalism and unbiased truth telling in America today.
Sharyl Attkisson has been a working journalist for more than thirty years and is host of Sinclair's Sunday morning TV program "Full Measure with Sharyl Attkisson." She has covered controversies under the administrations of Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama, emerging with a reputation, as the Washington Post recently put it, as a “persistent voice of news-media skepticism about the government’s story.” She is the recipient of five Emmy Awards and an Edward R. Murrow Award for investigative reporting. She has worked at CBS News, PBS, and CNN and is a fourth degree blackbelt in TaeKwonDo.

A deep, nuanced and indignant indictment of the players who have made investigative journalism harder to conduct, even if those actors are other journalists. (Kirkus Reviews)
“Attkisson offers a harrowing and gripping account of journalism as practiced these days in Washington. She skillfully unveils how she discovered the secret scheme to spy on her. The larger and more disturbing takeaway is how the mainstream are falling down on the job.” (Jeff Gerth, Pulitzer Prize winning former investigative reporter for the New York Times)
Who’s been hacking Sharyl Attkisson’s computers? Computers that turn themselves on in the night, make strange noises, then shut themselves down. They're obviously spying on her!
Who’s been hacking Sharyl Attkisson’s computers? Computers that turn themselves on in the night, make strange noises, then shut themselves down. Whoever is doing it is using highly sophisticated spyware available only to our top intelligence agencies. Is someone sending Attkisson a message? Suggestion: cover your computer with a blanket when you're dressing! Or tape over the web camera lens.
The hackers, using highly sophisticated spyware, are not just spying—they're also laughing at her for all the grief they're causing; shutting down the internet connection at night might help—try it, Sharyl
The hackers were bold enough to seize control of Attkisson’s mouse in broad daylight while she’s using it, deleting the text of her notes on the Benghazi terrorist attacks! That's pretty damned desperate. It was supposed to scare her away from telling the truth about the horrible Benghazi debacle Obozo and Hillary were responsible for. It didn't. "After the Orwellian opening hook, Stonewalled: My Fight for Truth Against the Forces of Obstruction, Intimidation, and Harassment in Obama's Washington breaks into three parts. The first exposes the extent to which corporate interests and the government influence the media. The second provides four in-depth, detailed examples of this disturbing trend, dedicating a chapter to each of the biggest stories Attkisson covered during her time with CBS: the Fast and Furious gunwalking fiasco, the green energy malinvestment scandals, the Benghazi terrorist attacks, and the disastrous rollout of the Healthcare.gov website. The first three stories were nominated for and/or won Emmy Awards, but every story is well-researched and chock-full of dates and sources." The Obozo clowns lied over and over to cover their asses, and the lazy fools in the mainstream media swallowed these lies hook, line, and sinker because he was their Great Black Hope
This book contains a ton of positive proof that the government—under Obama—has lied over and over in a corrupt burst of rewriting history and ass covering. When confronted with the fact of their lies, they brazenly denied everything and stuck with lies that had already been disproven. Attkisson talks about the “political industrial PR machine,” or what we like of think of as mass-produced truthiness. See Shadow Elite: How the World's New Power Brokers Undermine Democracy, Government, and the Free Market.
A sample of Obozo's idea of cooperation with subpoenas: redacted documents that may as well have been blank
When Obozo received congressional subpoenas and Freedom of Information requests, he responded with redacted documents that were basically a way to give the finger to Congress and reporters
Instead of providing public information and documents promptly and accurately to reporters, governmental press offices often withhold any and all potentially damaging information until they are forced to release bits and pieces through congressional subpoenas and Freedom of Information requests. But since they often have so many incriminating aspects in them, the documents they release are often worthless because they are redacted.
If you take a sledgehammer to your computer, don't hit the monitor like they do in movies and like this lady is doing. It won't help. Hit the computer itself.
One might think a person paranoid if she felt she was being watched and monitored and listened to, until she learned—to her horror—that it was TRUE. [The National Security Agency] "intercepts nearly all international telephone calls, faxes, and emails that travel by satellite or microwave link over any part of their journey. The same goes for cell phone calls (NSA maintains satellites devoted to intercepting cell phone calls), radio transmissions, and other electronic communications that cross international borders. Domestic communications can be, and have been, monitored with equal ease. . . . the NSA does not have to tell anyone that you are under surveillance, nor does it need any warrant to monitor your communications." Once they create the technology, can the thought police be far behind NSA's outrage of spying on us decent citizens?

Washington, D.C., has always been a tough town for investigative journalists. But in the age of Obama, the government has taken the tried-and-true techniques of bureaucratic stonewalling to unprecedented heights. What’s more, it has added harassment, intimidation, and outright spying to the mix. It suggested a very important question: What does this guy have to hide? For answers to that question, see How Obama Betrayed America....And No One Is Holding Him Accountable, The Corruption Chronicles: Obama's Big Secrecy, Big Corruption, and Big Government, Stonewalled: My Fight for Truth Against the Forces of Obstruction, Intimidation, and Harassment in Obama's Washington, The Left in Power: Clinton to Obama: Black Book of the American Left: Volume VII, and Obama's Enemies List: How Barack Obama Intimidated America and Stole the Election.
Obama wants you to believe I AM NOT A CROOK, but you know better!
Through more than thirty years as an award-winning investigative reporter, Sharyl Attkisson fought tirelessly to uncover wrongdoing by those in power, whether major corporations, government officials, or presidential administrations of both parties. But when she started looking into stories involving the Obama administration’s mistakes and misjudgments in a series of high-profile cases—stories few in mainstream journalism would touch—she was confronted with the administration’s use of hardball tactics to discourage, block, and actively suppress her investigative work.
Something stinks in Washington when there's so much corruption (Obama) that the government has to resort to illegal, unwarranted intrusions on innocent civilians: her computers and phone lines were hacked and bugged
A dogged reporter with a well-earned reputation as a “pit bull,” Attkisson filed a series of groundbreaking stories on the Fast and Furious gunwalking program, Obama’s green energy boondoggle, the unanswered questions about Benghazi, and the disastrous rollout of Obamacare. Her news reports were met with a barrage of PR warfare tactics, including emails and phone calls up the network chain of command, criticism from paid-for commenters and bloggers, and a campaign of character assassination that continues to this day. Most disturbing of all, Attkisson reveals that as she broke news on Fast and Furious and Benghazi, her computers and phone lines were hacked and bugged by an unrevealed but tremendously sophisticated party.
Stonewalled: My Fight for Truth Against the Forces of Obstruction, Intimidation, and Harassment in Obama's Washington is a searing indictment of the timidity of the press and the dangerous decline of investigative journalism and unbiased truth telling in America today
Stonewalled: My Fight for Truth Against the Forces of Obstruction, Intimidation, and Harassment in Obama's Washington is the story of the Obama administration’s efforts to monitor journalists, intimidate and harass opposition groups, and spy on private citizens. But it is also a searing indictment of the timidity of the press and the dangerous decline of investigative journalism and unbiased truth telling in America today. One might read her book to help one analyze the effect of the surveillance state on freedom of the press, to update one's understanding of the high degree of corruption in the Obama administration, to confirm one's understanding of the liberal mainstream media's love affair with Obozo—which made him untouchable and unaccountable, or just because her excellent writing weaves a spell on readers that engrosses them in her private drama which she so bravely chose to make public.
Sharyl Attkisson, for exposing Obozo's corruption, is one of the "good guys," like Noam Chomsky, Edward Snowden, Mark Felt, Daniel Ellsberg, Karen Silkwood, Julian Assange, and Chelsea Manning
Lest there be any doubt, Sharyl Attkisson is one of the good guys, like Noam Chomsky, Edward Snowden, Mark Felt, Daniel Ellsberg, Karen Silkwood, Julian Assange, and Chelsea Manning. (Chomsky exposed the entire playbook of the U.S. oligarchs and neocons that run things so that the haves get and the have-nots don't get in Requiem for the American Dream: The 10 Principles of Concentration of Wealth & Power.)
Media Matters for America offered up a biased hit piece on her book that seemed like little more than damage control for a corrupt and disgraced president—it added up to little except fake news and a chance to peddle the same lies and excuses Obozo peddled when his endless scandals were breaking out. Of course, the far-left activist organization Media Matters for America was started by David Brock and pushed by Hillary and Obama. Media Matters for America constantly say they’re not coordinating with President Obama. That’s a lie. As it turns out, Media Matters for America is in the back pocket of the Obama administration and acts as their go-between for other media outlets. When Brock wasn’t too busy reportedly indulging in illicit substances, he raised $50,000 for Obama. So Attkisson's report about the "political industrial PR machine" is based in fact. Media Matters for America even admits that its goal is to counterbalance rightwing media by publishing far-left hit pieces in the media, and the liberal mainstream media sellouts were and are eager to cooperate with this quest. So the hit piece on Attkisson is just more Obama PR indirectly controlled by Obozo and his cohorts. What a shock.
Far-left activist organizations like Media Matters for America ensure that the American public is virtually choking on misinformation

The New York Post reported CBS 'stuck their heads in the sand' rather than address this potential public relations disaster and save a shred of whatever integrity they had left
"[Attkisson's] path-breaking CBS News investigative reports uncovered 'phony scandals' from Fast and Furious to Benghazi and Obamacare. All were inconvenient truths that the Obama White House constantly stonewalled — hence the title and three of her eight chapters. Those revelations alone compare favorably with Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein’s All the President’s Men, the canonical account of Watergate and the crimes of President Nixon. . . . an exhaustive forensics analysis of Mrs. Attkisson’s iMac found evidence of classified documents planted deep in her hard drive; systematic intrusions allowing remote control of her personal files; most damning of all, 'a backdoor link to an ISP address for a government computer.' It was slam-dunk confirmation of a deliberately planned government penetration, all predictably denied by Eric Holder Jr.’s [oxymoronically named] Justice Department." (Eric Holder: Judicial Watch notes he was the first attorney general to be held in contempt of Congress on both civil and criminal grounds, after he refused to cooperate with probes into Operation Fast & Furious, the Obama administration's 2012 gun running fiasco.)
