The Future According To Newt
an article in Utne Reader by Margot Adler
(our site's article review)
The Tofflers like Newt Gingrich because he’s the only politician turned on to the Third Wave, and the only one thinking like a futurist and supporting ideas like electronic cottages. But they have huge differences with him: they’re secular, he’s a Bible thumper. They’re anti-school prayer, he’s for it. They’re pro-choice, he’s anti-choice. (And in the 21st century Newt seems to be a nonentity while the Tofflers keep writing great, world-class books and getting press at the global level.)
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich says that he's a conservative futurist and he supports an information-based economy with telecommuting, computer networking and space exploration. Several social observers criticize Gingrich as being unconventional and that his goals are unrealistic.
