Brutal Minds: The Dark World of Left-Wing Brainwashing in Our Universities
a book by Stanley K. Ridgley Ph.D.
(our site's book review)
The Amazon blurb says that “If you are scratching your head as to how radicals could have seized control in Washington, and of American media, while defaming American democracy as a ‘white supremacist’ nightmare, look no further than the left’s transformation of American universities into ideological boot camps for Marxist treachery. Brutal Minds: The Dark World of Left-Wing Brainwashing in Our Universities is a model of clarity and straight talk about this national tragedy, whose destructive energies have yet to run their course.” —DAVID HOROWITZ, Bestselling Author of Final Battle

The left transformed American universities into ideological boot camps for Marxist treachery

Much of university life is controlled by subsidized paranoiacs, amateur psychotherapists, neo-Marxist totalitarians, brutal minds who threaten and abuse students in the name of an academic fraud called antiracist pedagogy
Much of university life is controlled by subsidized paranoiacs, amateur psychotherapists, neo-Marxist totalitarians, “student affairs professionals” imbued with authoritarian mentality, and racialist thought reformers who run workshops that destroy family ties and traditional beliefs to clear the way for new relationships grounded in racialist ideology. These are the brutal minds who threaten and abuse students in the name of an academic fraud called “antiracist pedagogy.” This isn't the "don't be racist" moral. It is the entire belief system based on paranoid premises, propped up by ridiculous pseudoscience, and supported by liberal lies and playing on prejudice.
In Brutal Minds: The Dark World of Left-Wing Brainwashing in Our Universities, award-winning professor Stanley K. Ridgley exposes the dangers of radicalization, cancel culture, academic censorship, and the growing influence of socialists “boldly transforming” colleges across the country into reeducation camps of dull conformity.
An educational charade masks activities and ideology as dangerous as those that inspired Communist China’s tragic Cultural Revolution. This book strips away the façade of the modern American university to reveal the malignant bureaucratic viscera inside the institution. It is a dark world, an anti-intellectualist sanctuary where brutal minds find purpose, protection, camaraderie, subsidy, and power. The methodology of the Brutal Minds is similar to that used in cults to gain, keep, and brainwash adherents. There is a lot of Maoism in wokeism, BLM, and liberals' progressivism. Cults, like the Unification Church, the People's Temple, and Synanon have used these mind control methods to recruit vulnerable or weak people.

The methodology of the colleges' Brutal Minds is similar to that used in cults to gain, keep, and brainwash adherents
Dr. Ridgley’s book calls us to action to halt this anti-intellectual takeover of higher education and to restore the greatness of one of Western civilization’s most brilliant creations, the American University.

Dr. Ridgley’s book calls us to action to halt this anti-intellectual takeover of higher education by radical leftist Marxists
“A tale of how one of history’s great institutions—the American university—is undergoing an infiltration by an army of mediocrities whose goal is to destroy it as an institution of knowledge creation and replace it with an authoritarian organ of ideology and propaganda.”
—From the Preface to Brutal Minds
As Ridgley tells it, "Wherever BRUTAL MINDS get the upper hand, they destroy, they dumb down, they homogenize, and, if necessary, they stamp the face of opposition with the jackboot of outright repression. They eliminate the opposition, they remove it, and they censor, block, and obliterate the record of knowledge exemplified by the university’s brutal mind.

Wherever BRUTAL MINDS get the upper hand, they destroy, they dumb down, they homogenize, and, if necessary, they stamp the face of opposition with the jackboot of outright repression
"The university would seem to be the last place for us to look for brutal minds. Yet if the barbarous book-burners teach us nothing else, it is that the university is the first place we should look. Brutal minds are ubiquitous in the American university today, and they tirelessly harangue, wheedle, and often abuse the next generation of American youth.

The university would seem to be the last place for us to look for brutal minds. Yet if the barbarous book-burners teach us nothing else, it is that the university is the first place we should look
"Behind a Potemkin facade, the university has been
transformed dramatically from what alumni, parents, and donors
imagine it to be. The public facade of higher education conflicts
sharply with the reality experienced by students, witnessed by faculty. It means that a throng of half-educated ideologues trained in
schools of education will engage in psychosocial, cognitive, and
social identity development of undergraduate students, and this
means your son or daughter. The student should prepare to be
assaulted—intellectually, verbally, psychologically,
ideologically, racially, repeatedly.
"The only places relatively untouched by the infestation are
the STEM fields, because they are the source of so much of the
university’s largesse—government research contracts. But . . . if you thought that science was safe on the campus, that scientists could pursue the truth as their inquiries led them, well, brutal minds have set their sights on destroying even this part of the university!"
Today's university is a Dark Ages place that takes the creative, the nonconformist, and the thinkers and uses horrid inquisition methods—updated from physical torture to psychological torture—and psychologically beats the nonconformity out of them until they are dull, beaten shells. They have been totally duped by the school, which pulled the old bait and switch on them. Instead of learning and knowledge they received brainwashing and indoctrination. The overall purpose of this scam—besides the college laughing all the way to the bank—is so unexpected and unbelievable that if you warned them as they were applying for the privilege of being traumatized and ruined, they'd have laughed at you. The purpose is to kill the United States and its democracy and replace it with The Marxist States of America.

It is amazing the uses one can put white guilt to: cops looking the other way as cities were burned, stores were looted, and violent riots were ignored. The danger of cancellation hung over responding to crimes, riots, arson, looting
The Marxist organization Black Lives Matter pretend that they are all about caring about blacks, who they claim are being abused by white supremacists. But that is just their cover, their PR mottos. Their purpose is to kill the United States and its democracy and replace it with The Marxist States of America. When the George Floyd murder happened, they jumped on it. They'd been waiting for such an opportunity to exploit for years. They helped people to burn down cities and protest violently and try to change society overnight, including defunding the police, since no cops meant cities descending into chaos. They pushed for Antiracism to be installed as official policy in colleges. It has very little to do with not being racist. They helped the 1619 Project and Critical Race Theory to be installed in schools: gradeschools, highschools, colleges. It is amazing the uses one can put white guilt to: cops looking the other way as cities were burned, stores were looted, and violent riots were ignored. The danger of cancellation hung over responding to crimes, riots, arson, looting. Many stores were closed.
The next step is obvious: the US democracy is a mess. Everywhere there's racism and white supremacists. [Actually, there isn't, and the statistics prove it. The leftists figure if they say it enough it will show it must be true.] Wouldn't it be great to replace it with socialism? [Ask Venezuela how great it is!] Why does BLM want to be in The Marxist States of America? Like with Venezuela, everyone but the leaders, who gain lots of wealth and power, end up poor, while the citizens fight over crumbs. And the BLMers plan to be rich leaders, of course!
This palace is where the socialist Venezuelan leaders live, while the common people starve in slums, enduring hyperinflation (53,798,500% between 2016 and April 2019), escalating hunger, disease, crime and mortality rates, and mass emigration. Wouldn't it be great to replace our democracy with socialism? Ask Venezuela how great it is!
Thought reform is the main tool being used in colleges to ensure that forbidden ideas like conservatism, Constitution, freedom of speech can not be uttered and that only approved ideas are expressed. Approved means the Ministry of Truth (Orwell's 1984) must put their OK stamp on it. The goal of the brainwashing is to replace your beliefs with their beliefs. When used on campus, it is very dangerous. The traumas involved can drive one to suicide, murder, and abuse. Today on campus brainwashing is used to inculcate social justice and antiracist paranoia and conspiracy. American cults and college social justice educators are the two main users of brainwashing in the USA today.
"Professor Stanley K. Ridgley has written just the book we need: Brutal Minds: The Dark World of Left-Wing Brainwashing in Our Universities. In it, Ridgley, who teaches at Drexel University, blows the whistle on the ugly phenomenon of using college to turn students into zealots who despise America. In the book, we learn about the organizations that are behind this covert operation and the tactics they use. If you are inclined to think that the Left’s control over our educational institutions is regrettable but not a matter of great concern, Brutal Minds: The Dark World of Left-Wing Brainwashing in Our Universities is essential reading.
"Here’s how Ridgley describes his book: “It’s a tale of how one of history’s great institutions—the American university—is undergoing an infiltration by an army of mediocrities whose goal is to destroy it as an institution of knowledge creation and replace it with an authoritarian organ of ideology and propaganda.”" (Source: https://www.jamesgmartin.center/2023/06/a-devastating-expose-of-americas-colleges/, George Leef, jamesgmartin)
Brutal Minds: The Dark World of Left-Wing Brainwashing in Our Universities is a biting takedown of the status quo, which "a tiny, disaffected minority animated by prejudice and paranoia" has installed in universities. Ridgley does not hold back, he said they "are not normal, enlightened persons'' who have "goodwill," but are "cultists who explicitly reject logic, reason, science" and "cause-and-effect." Appropriately, the foreward is written by like-minded higher ed expert David Horowitz.

Ridgley said brutal minds at the universities "eliminate the opposition, they remove it, and they censor, block, and obliterate the record of knowledge. … They cancel." They take multiple steps to ensure that brainwashing happens. He compared it to the brainwashing that occurred as part of Mao's Cultural Revolution in China
"Ridgley said brutal minds at the universities "eliminate the opposition, they remove it, and they censor, block, and obliterate the record of knowledge. … They cancel." They take multiple steps to ensure that brainwashing happens. He compared it to the brainwashing that occurred as part of Mao's Cultural Revolution in China. That regime utilized the three-stage model of brainwashing formulated by Kurt Lewin, known as unfreezing, changing and refreezing." "Brutal Minds: The Dark World of Left-Wing Brainwashing in Our Universities is not only a guide to the mechanisms by which the world of the American university, which had been tilting left for decades, became a fully woke indoctrination center bent on imposing a dogmatic leftist take on race and gender. It also explains how the indoctrination works in practice and gives advice for how best to resist it." [Think of China infiltrating our schools and installing brutal Maoist techniques designed to replace democracy with Marxism, except that China isn't to blame—frustrated '60s radicals and BLM and CRT experts are.]
"While many ordinary Americans blame the professors for this shift, Ridgley rightly argues that full-blown activists are still a minority of faculty at most schools. Certainly students will find the kind of brutal Maoist techniques designed to separate them from their families, communities, and sense of morality in some classes, but the most dangerous people on campus are those in the “student affairs” (sometimes called “student services” or “student development”) positions—counselors, student orientation directors, residence life directors, first-year experience directors, academic advisors, and especially the hordes of diversity, equity, and inclusion staffers who have taken over.
"Though Ridgley does not think the faculty in general are the biggest problems, some academic departments come in for special blame: mostly in the social sciences, the “studies” (women’s, sexuality, black, social justice, etc.), and especially the schools of education.

For Ridgley, the student affairs bureaucracies and the education departments form, along with the national student affairs guilds such as NASPA and ACPA, a three-headed beast that he names Cerberus after the mythical guard dog of the underworld
"For Ridgley, the student affairs bureaucracies and the education departments form, along with the national student affairs guilds such as NASPA and ACPA, a three-headed beast that he names Cerberus after the mythical guard dog of the underworld. The way it works is that the education schools give credentials to the activists trained by the guilds who then take over administrative positions within the universities and create more administrative positions for the activists to take over." "My conclusion: “Brutal Minds should make you angry at the way our educational ‘leaders’ have permitted colleges and universities to be infiltrated by fake academics pushing poisonous beliefs on gullible students.”" —George Leef, director of editorial content at the James G. Martin Center for Academic Renewal

But I tell you I am RIGHT about all this and you are WRONG!!
Oberlin college lost a fortune (36 million) due to their foolish beliefs about racism that they tried to get a court to buy into, but no one did. The case was about shoplifting students who beat up the guy who retrieved their stolen merchandise in a nasty display of elitism, bullying and self-righteousness. Then the lying began: the guy who got their stuff back was accused of being a racist even though he was nothing of the kind. This kind of nonsense would work on liberal idiots or politicians, but not on the townspeople, who saw their foolish lies coming a mile away. Oberlin College, like most liberal colleges, had leaders that hired fake academics to push poisonous beliefs on gullible students. "All white students are white supremacists who are racists by definition" is the excrement the fake academics were brainwashing into student minds, spoonfeeding them crap—and calling it "antiracism."

Oberlin College was/is spoonfeeding the students crap—and calling it 'antiracism'
"The college discovered that its gaslighting not only would not be tolerated in the small town of Oberlin—outside the intellectual provincialism of the college—but that even as the college argued futilely in court for years, it would pay a fabulous price for its self-righteous bullying and defamation.
"And thus it was that something wondrous and magical happened in 2022: The good guys won.
"It took six years and much court wrangling, but justice was served. The story ended happily with the judgment and actual payment of many millions in damages.
"None of this need have happened.
"Oberlin could have acted with integrity and maintained its reputation by quickly and clearly acknowledging its mistake, by disciplining the students, by firing the administrators whose bad judgment dragged the college into the predicament, and by offering to pay voluntary restitution to Gibson’s, which most certainly would not have been a multi-million-dollar affair.
"But in fact, the dangers for ideologically driven college presidents are clear—for them, their senior bureaucracies, and their institutions, and especially for those who impose doctrines on their communities that excuse and even encourage illegal behavior.

The Oberlin case gave the court the opportunity to teach the college the huge liability of brainwashing students with critical race theory lies and yet the administrators there were so brainwashed that no one at the school learned anything (they were blind/deaf/dumb to new info since they were so sure, wrongly, that their ideas were "right")
"The case is monumental and encouraging. It establishes important precedents that can positively transform higher education." It's about time that the liberal insulters who see racism everywhere taste the consequences of their idiotic beliefs and actions. It would have been just desserts if Oberlin had been sued into bankruptcy but their huge budget was merely inconvenienced by the unexpected expense. Are they wise enough to close down their student brainwashing campaign and return to being an institution of learning rather than propaganda? The chances are slim. Insight seems in critically short supply at Oberlin college.

The David and Goliath case of a tiny bakery fighting Oberlin college is monumental and encouraging. It establishes important precedents that can positively transform higher education. It's about time that the liberal insulters who see racism everywhere taste the consequences of their actions.
"“Racism” is now part of the lexicon of so-called campus “hate speech.” Baseless accusations of so-called “racism” can no longer be delivered with impunity. Colleges and universities are liable for the irresponsible actions of their bureaucrats, who huddle under the rubric of “social justice.”" (Source: The $36 Million Question College Presidents Won’t Answer › American Greatness, Stanley K. Ridgley)
