Fake Invisible Catastrophes and Threats of Doom
a book by Patrick Moore
(our site's book review)
The Amazon blurb says that Here is Dr. Patrick Moore's description of his unique thesis as presented in Fake Invisible Catastrophes and Threats of Doom. "It dawned on me one day that most of the scare stories in the media today are based on things that are invisible, like CO2 and radiation, or very remote, like polar bears and coral reefs. Thus, the average person cannot observe and verify the truth of these claims for themselves. They must rely on activists, the media, politicians, and scientists — all of whom have a huge financial and/or political interest in the subject — to tell them the truth.

The average person cannot observe and verify the truth of these scientific claims for themselves, so they must rely on activists, the media, and politicians: three types of proven liars
This is my effort, after 50 years as a scientist and environmental activist, to expose the misinformation and outright lies used to scare us and our children about the future of the Earth. Direct observation is the very basis of science. Without verified observation it is not possible to know the truth. That is the sharp focus of this book."The book contains 98 color photographs, illustrations, and charts.

A key target audience is parents who do not approve of the "progressive" school curriculum and its alarmism about the future of civilization and the natural world. Dr. Moore hopes these parents will read his book and pass it on to their high-school and older children to give them an alternative to the bleak future predicted by the merchants of doom. Many other audiences will also find the book informative and convincing.

We are told that nuclear energy is very dangerous when the numbers prove it is one of the safest technologies (except for waste disposal)
In 11 chapters the reader is clearly shown that citizens are being misinformed by so many environmental doomsday prophesies, ones they cannot verify for themselves. We are told that nuclear energy is very dangerous when the numbers prove it is one of the safest technologies.

'What could possibly cause all this melting ice? My money's on all those long, hot stinkers you've been letting! Pee-yew! I mean, what else could it be?'
We are told polar bears will go extinct soon when their population has been growing steadily for nearly 50 years. We are told that there is something harmful in genetically modified food crops when it is invisible, has no name and no chemical formula.

We are told severe forest fires are caused by climate change when they are actually caused by poor management of fuel load (dead wood) in the forest
We are told severe forest fires are caused by climate change when they are actually caused by poor management of fuel load (dead wood) in the forest. We are told that all the coral reefs will die by 2100 from overheating when in fact the most diverse coral reefs are found in the warmest oceans in the world. And of course, we are told that invisible CO2 from using fossil fuels, accounting for more than 80 percent of our energy supply, will make the Earth too hot for life.

All of these scare stories, and many more, are simply not true. And this book will convince you, your family, and your colleagues of that. There is no substitute for the truth. Dr. Patrick Moore was one of the co-founders of Greenpeace and sailed on the first Greenpeace campaign against US H-bomb tests in Alaska. Upon receiving his PhD in ecology, he spent 15 years in the top committee of Greenpeace and led many of its environmental campaigns

Over the years Greenpeace became very successful with campaigns to save the whales, stop the mass slaughter of baby seals, prevent toxic dumping into the air, water and earth, and many more
Greenpeace began as a group of volunteers with noble intentions. Over the years it became very successful with campaigns to save the whales, stop the mass slaughter of baby seals, prevent toxic dumping into the air, water and earth, and many more. Greenpeace found itself in the early 1980s with more than $100 million coming in annually and close to 1,000 people on the payroll. It had become a business and fundraising moved to the top of the priority list.

The business model of Greenpeace degenerated into SCARE THE CRAP OUT OF THEM, THEN ASK FOR MORE MONEY
New campaigns were more about using sensationalism, misinformation and fear to attract donations. Dr. Moore said good-bye in 1986 as Greenpeace was turning into a racket peddling junk science. Since then he has strived to be a sensible environmentalist, basing his beliefs on sound science and logical thinking. This book is the culmination of 50 years of learning during Dr. Moore's multi-faceted quest for the truth about environmental issues (an historical account of Dr. Moore's 15 years with Greenpeace and his analysis of environmental subjects are in his previous book, "Confessions of a Greenpeace Dropout - The Making of a Sensible Environmentalist, also on Amazon).
Moore says "It was bittersweet parting ways with Greenpeace, the organization that I had helped build, shape, and guide for 15 years. Unfortunately, Greenpeace had gone from an altruistic group of volunteers with a noble vision, to a business with an ever-expanding budget, a matching payroll to meet, and was now rapidly transforming into a racket peddling junk science."

Greenpeace had gone from an altruistic group of volunteers with a noble vision, to a business with an ever-expanding budget, a racket peddling junk science and doomsday prophecies
"Awhile back it dawned on me that the great majority of scare stories about the present and future state of the planet, and humanity as a whole, are based on subjects that are either invisible, like CO2 and radiation, or extremely remote, like polar bears and coral reefs. Thus, most people have no way of determining the truth of these claims of alleged catastrophes and doomsday threats. Instead, they must rely on the activists, the media, the politicians, and the scientists — all of whom have a very large financial and/or political stake in the subject — to tell them the truth. This welcomes the opportunity to simply invent narratives such as the claim that 'CO2 emissions from burning fossil fuels are causing a climate emergency.'

It's not that the environment is being degraded into a cesspool that is our key danger, it's that the liberal elites are perpetrating a fraud to force us into a Marxist socialism cesspool where they rule
In the science of physics, there is an effort to discover the Unified Field Theory, by which the many forces of nature are explained in a single formula. This would be a breakthrough if it were ever realized. My analysis above may not be quite so profound, possibly not worthy of a Nobel Prize, but I believe it does provide a new insight into the doomsday prophesies that have been declared since the dawn of civilization. I call it the “Unified Theory of Scare Stories’, which includes all those dire predictions that are either invisible or so remote that the average person cannot observe or verify the truth for themselves.
No one can actually see, or in any way sense, what CO2 might actually be doing because it is invisible, odorless, tasteless, silent, and cannot be felt by the sense of touch. Therefore, it is difficult to refute such claims.

Are environmental catastrophists Chicken Little shouting that 'the sky is falling!' or are there truly some negative aspects of technology adoption that warrant further consideration?

Our colleges have, similarly, degenerated from learning institutes teaching facts to shameless indoctrination institutes peddling the discredited junk science of socialist-Marxist-globalist propaganda, racist lies in The 1619 Project and Critical Race Theory, and COVID-19-tied protocols that teach them solely to fear and obey. The liberal elites use the ruse of caring about Blacks as their main context for gaining power, not for Blacks, but for themselves, the liberal elite. This is why so much that comes out of their mouths is lies and hypocrisy—it's a transparent fraud for a hidden purpose: political power.
As the Washington Times' Cheryl K. Chumley says, "Nowadays, parents are better off keeping Johnny in the basement playing video games for another year. Better to rot their minds with gaming than socialist-Marxist-globalist propaganda and COVID-19-tied protocols that teach them solely to fear and obey." Liberal elites were terrified that THE SKY IS FALLING when Trump began exposing the lies, corruption and hypocrisy in their political correctness, identity politics, and open border frauds
Fake Invisible Catastrophes and Threats of Doom is a good antidote for the fraudulent doomsday books by doomsayer scientists. An example of this genre is Only Love Remains: Dancing at the Edge of Extinction, by Guy McPherson.
Here is a reviewer's opinion: "This is a very enlightening book if you like documented facts on “Climate Change”. For those that are total believers in “junk Science” do not even bother to read the first page." (Source: Catastrophes and Threats of Doom – Patrick Moore, Tim Hoiles)
Here is another reviewer's opinion:"In 1841, Charles Mackay wrote a remarkable book entitled “Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds”, about the popular manias of that time that cost people their fortunes, as these financial scams mushroomed and then exploded into oblivion. Patrick Moore’s new book Fake Invisible Catastrophes and Threats of Doom could be the sequel, as he chronicles eleven fake disasters that are costing modern society trillions of dollars in squandered global resources, and scaring gullible people into supporting extremist political agendas that will cause them and their children great harm.
"In the Introduction, Moore describes his early life and his adoption of a strong dedication to true science-based ecology. He discusses his role as a co-founder of Greenpeace, and his lifelong dedication to ecological and humanitarian causes, based on the Scientific Method. Moore left Greenpeace in the mid-1980s when it was taken over by extremists who embraced an unscientific, anti-human agenda, which politicized fake fears and pursued bureaucratic and financial growth through a barrage of false propaganda."
