Human Aggression
a book by Anthony Storr
(our site's book review)

Overpopulation causes many of Earth's other problems—it's a major contributor to war and environmental destruction
Storr tells us that “Overpopulation is, paradoxically, the greatest threat to man’s continuance as a species. . . . in man as in other species, overcrowding is an undoubted breeding ground of hostility. . . . the population explosion . . . threatens us all. . . . Who can doubt that, the more of us there are, the more likely we are to be destroyed by the ultimate explosion?”

Who can doubt that, the more of us there are, the more likely we are to be destroyed by the ultimate explosion?
He refers here to the hydrogen bomb. He expects this bomb to fall, because people simply won’t take the responsibility of birth control seriously, which he considers a deadly error of the first magnitude. He recommends more research on child-raising techniques and parent education once we have this knowledge. Since Storr published his book in 1968, the research he recommended has happened, and a considerable amount of parent education is now going on as well—obviously the latter needs to increase drastically, but we would except that the right-wing extremists and fundamentalists will try to block it because it isn’t Bible teachings.

The Pope needs to rethink the idea that covering the earth with a layer of squirming humanity twenty feet deep will demonstrate the 'glory of God' (rather than the stupidity of humans)!
