a book by Federico Mayor
(our site's book review)
Head of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, Federico Mayor, the author, wants global communities to get along in tolerance, cooperation and mutual tolerance. He wants knowledge to be dedicated towards peace, as opposed to war—which is where much knowledge went in the days of the Cold War. He wants Third Wave knowledge to replace Second Wave coercion as a power source, although he doesn’t use such Tofflerian terms.
He wants the people who report on and write about areas of global concern to become doers, not talkers. He wants each of us to be responsible to actualize our personal potentials to help solve our world’s problems (e.g., this website). He wants us to be responsible with our delicate biosphere and look into alternative energy sources. He wants the birth rates to drop in crowded countries and he cites that where this is happening it’s because of education.

We've got our world in our hands
The book Nonviolent Communication: A Language of Life is very peace promoting and violence preventing. It has lots of good examples of statements that contain criticism and judgments. These are to be avoided. There are lots of examples of the right way to communicate, to use in place of these communication blocks which can create conflict and misunderstanding. Nonviolent Communication is both (a) a peacemaking method that can be used so that global communities can get along in tolerance, cooperation and mutual respect; and (b) a parenting method, so family relationship techniques are compassionate, wise, and successful.
