Maximizing Social Resources Scientifically
an article by our site
The urge to improve our lives, environments, relationships, homes, and jobs is as old as civilization itself. It's a component of basic lifewish—we only get one shot at life and we try our best to make it the best we can. Many different life-improvement methods have been tried over the centuries.
- Acquisition, ownership, materialism, possessions
- Being a follower and letting some charismatic leader "show you the way to paradise/enlightenment"
- Hard work, building, creativity, innovation
- Self-improvement trips: Est, Wings, encounter groups, shrinks, group therapy, self-talk
- More or better exercise, revamping health habits, eliminating unhealthy habits
- Education, learning, reading helpful books or e-books
- Facing the many inadequacies in your parenting, relationships, neighborhoods and communities and finding a way to fix all of it, rather than continuing to repress it all, rationalizing that you're doing about as well as your friends are doing or about as well as the Joneses next door are doing
MATERIALISM: Getting more stuff is the oldest life-improvement method, and those most skilled at wealth accumulation were often kings, tyrants, or czars. Much of this wealth gathering involved invasions, back-stabbing, or other violence. More recently, nearly everyone on the planet is aiming at wealth gathering. Those that work hard rarely get much wealth unless they also work smart. Sometimes crime pays off big and a crime boss gets rich. There's nothing wrong with ambition unless you let your life be about materialism. Note how those that get rich often—but not always—use some of their money to help others, since this seems to make them happier than another zero added to their net worth. There's a lesson here.

BEING A FOLLOWER: The Utopianists, before the American Civil War, started up their lame versions of paradise based upon such things as religious beliefs, polygamy, cult leaders' charisma, and avoiding the corrupt society outside their utopias' walls. Some had staying power because of how ignorant and gullible the members were, others caused people to hang around because of how good the leader was at brainwashing. Most people are too smart to have anything to do with these lame groups. But there are always leaders eager to take advantage of the ignorant, the young, the vulnerable, and the gullible, whether in the Moonies, the Scientologists, UFO cults, Rajneeshees, Heaven's Gate, or in dozens of other trips that are for those sheep who cannot or will not think for themselves but instead prefer to follow some leader who will think for them and lead them to his screwed up version of the Promised Land.
"If you tell a big enough lie and tell it frequently enough, it will be believed."—Adolf Hitler
Notice that all the flocks in the above cults, "churches", and pseudo-utopias are led, as if they'd been lobotomized or had brain damage. Some of the sheep in these flocks were just plain stupid and didn't know any better. Many had Father complexes and were looking for parenting. But why this obsession with following a leader? It isn't nearly as fulfilling as being your own person and thinking for yourself. But what happens if such thinking always leads to sad feelings, scary isolation, merciless fear, and alienation? In other words, if you were wrecked psychologically as a child, finding something that gives you the illusion of security and purpose can be a great comfort. But it involves being exploited by people out to pick your pockets, after which they get you to work for them for free, and get you to try to sign up other members for free, becoming more and more brainwashed every day you associate with these losers.
Anyway, you will rarely get anything useful from such organizations, and if you wise up and leave them, it will be as a sadder but wiser victim of your own gullibility. We and any true friend you have will advise you to avoid becoming an exploited follower when you feel sad feelings, scary isolation, merciless fear, and alienation. Instead, determine what the root causes of these feelings are and do something constructive about them. Avoid trying to suppress these feelings by being obsessed with entertainment, substance abuse, sexual conquests, social networking, or becoming a workoholic. Hiding from problems will only make them worse. Instead, find a way to fix these problems by fixing your life in general (the last method, below).
Cults suck (money from your wallet)
HARD WORK, BUILDING, CREATIVITY, INNOVATION: These are great ideas that can do much to improve lives, but it's always best to combine these with enhancing relationships and lifestyle as well, so as not to let all these activities be a replacement for seeking a well-rounded life full of love and joy and meaning and happiness.
SELF-IMPROVEMENT TRIPS: These can be a great way to gain personal insights and get to know yourself better unless you let all these activities be a replacement for seeking a well-rounded life full of love and joy and meaning and happiness. If you cannot find a way for life to be happy when you are not doing such things, they may have become a crutch which you need to overcome. We suggest finding a way to fix this eternally-needed-crutch problem by fixing your life in general (the last method, below).
IMPROVE HEALTH: This is always a good life improvement method, unless it becomes a replacement for seeking a well-rounded life full of love and joy and meaning and happiness. If you find yourself spending most of your time obsessed with health and taking pills and exercising until you're ready to drop, and seeing doctors, accupuncturists, massage therapists, shrinks, counselors, and health spa people, it's time to stop and try to figure out what you're so afraid of. Death? That's simply a part of life, and you cannot outrun it. Alas, if you find yourself spending most of your time running from it, let's hope that eventually you get the obvious insight that all this activity has given you no time to really live and find love and joy and meaning and happiness.
EDUCATION: This is always a good life improvement method, unless it becomes a replacement for seeking a well-rounded life full of love and joy and meaning and happiness. If you make wise choices in what you read, it should EMPOWER a well-rounded life full of love and joy and meaning and happiness. If it does not, perhaps it's mere escapism. Actual wisdom can be found here book reviews and here The Forest Through The Trees.
FIX YOUR LIFE: We highly recommend facing the many inadequacies in your parenting, relationships, neighborhoods and communities and finding a way to fix all of them, rather than continuing to repress them all, rationalizing that you're doing about as well as your friends or the Joneses next door are doing. What doesn't progress will regress. What doesn't grow will die. What doesn't flow will stagnate. What isn't faced will hit you when you are not looking. Putting your head in the sand makes your backside singularly vulnerable.
Putting your head in the sand makes your backside singularly vulnerable
Why is life fixing the best approach to life improvement? Because if your life needs fixing it is at least somewhat broken. And it won't fix itself. Besides, fixing parenting, relationships, neighborhoods and communities will tend to fix everything else that has been experienced as a barrier to happiness. Read The Forest Through The Trees and see for yourself.
What is maximizing social resources and why do you need it? All over this website you will find articles about how to improve parenting, relationships, neighborhoods and communities. The authors we discuss in our many hundreds of book reviews all agree that inadequate social resources creates most of the social dysfunctionality in our country (along with ignorance about parenting, relationships, neighborhoods and communities). But, not being blessed with magic wands, they cannot simply wave a wand and transform inadequate resources to adequate ones, thereby fixing most social problems.
Social commentators cannot simply wave a wand and transform inadequate resources into adequate ones
So they opt for advocating social engineering, fueled by social spending, which is prompted by politicians' proposals. They know we're in deep debt and cannot come up with this social spending money and that social engineering that has happened over the last half century has oftentimes done more harm than good. But they have to advocate something better than handwringing, prayer, hope, and waiting for a miracle. So they want to tax and spend.
Perhaps tax-and-spend liberalism has had its day and we need a better idea (MCs)
But no one listens. Nor should they! The government and the politicians are the problem, not the solution! And yet, parenting, relationships, neighborhoods and communities are quite dysfunctional and are causing an unending stream of social symptomatology, so, somehow, they must be fixed.
Parenting, relationships, neighborhoods and communities are in trouble and must be fixed before the tidal wave of symptoms takes us all under
But government, politicians, social programs, and social engineering will not help us this time, even if our country was rolling in extra money that could be spent on "programs." And yet parenting, relationships, neighborhoods and communities are in trouble and must be fixed before the tidal wave of symptoms takes us all under. So, since government, politicians, social programs, and social engineering will NOT be riding in on white horses to save the day, how WILL we effect the desperately needed maximizing of social resources that can address all these problems?
Uncle Sam won't be riding in on a white horse to save the day, so we must do it ourselves!
There will be no "someone" who solves these social issues for us. We've all watched a few too many heroes ride in and save the day in movies. We can either go with "the Lord helps him who helps himself" or "it is time that our culture matures and quits looking for mommies to take care of us" but, either way, it is time to face facts, people: Either WE do it, or NO ONE will. But what will we do? Effect a maximizing of social resources that will address these problems. How? MCs and PSBs and P.E.T. (or another of the Authoritative and Democratic Parenting Programs). Each person who effects a maximizing of social resources for his family in these ways will SOLVE his/her family's social dysfunctionality. If everyone does it, the nation's social dysfunctionality will be gone. Read The Forest Through The Trees and see for yourself.
Jailing isolated ladies and their kids together in isolated little houses in the suburbs where each was the sole resource of the other was the dumbest idea in history
What do we mean by maximizing social resources "scientifically"? There is absolutely no part of the MC movement plan that is guesses or experiments or untested. Science has proven every part of it. On the other hand, the isolated nuclear family experiment is an historically aberrant mistake that started in the 1950s when the U.S. was obsessed with heroic individualism idealism. NO part of this isolated nuclear family experiment had been tested, validated, or thought through. (Which is why it precipitated so much social symptomatology.)
To underscore the assertion that the isolated nuclear family experiment caused decades of social dysfunctionality, let's examine the historical record: A few years into the 1950s women began going nuts from this ridiculous new, unfounded idea that it would be great if we began jailing isolated ladies and their kids together in isolated little houses in the suburbs where these moms were the only resources the kids had, and whenever this incarceration made her scream and cry, she was supposed to clean and cook like crazy until "the little woman's" silly feelings just magically disappeared! To add insult to injury, TV shows like Leave It to Beaver brainwashed the American culture with these lies: that it was supposed to be that way and it had always been that way and it always would be that way. Untrue propaganda at its dumbest.
What remained when most social tasks were exteriorized in the 1950s was the isolated ‘nuclear family,’ held together less by the functions its members performed as a unit than by fragile psychological bonds that are all too easily snapped
The isolated nuclear family experiment resourcelessness caused a huge wave of psychological damage to American women's psyches, which was 'cured' by shrinks colluding with this oppressive insanity, giving women tons of Valiums
This incarcerated resourcelessness caused a huge wave of psychological damage to American women's psyches, which was "cured" by shrinks colluding with this oppressive insanity, giving women tons of Valiums to calm their "silly little feelings"! More insightful women realized how this male-dominated conspiracy was strangling them, so they revamped and reinforced the (stalled since women got voting rights in 1920) Women's Liberation Movement. See Revolution From Within.
Waiting for 'someone' to create a viable fix for our social dysfunction will have the same effect as wishing while throwing coins in a fountain
There was a time when there were true, wise, moral statesmen who led us well, actually working for the people and not the corporations. The best example is FDR, or even George Washington. But those days are long gone and nothing remotely like that exists in the 21st century. Over two thirds of Americans believe government is elected by and for the few in 1991 (and in 1999 it was 75% and in 2012 it was 80%), and most feel powerless. Signs of apathy and alienation are hard to ignore. See Psychological Dysfunction for a list of resources that will show you the truth—what's really going on. Elections are clown shows to keep us distracted as those in charge—unelected neocons out for themselves—do whatever they want, getting our leaders to start wars none of us ever wanted so they can pile profits into the bursting vaults of their oligarch buddies. Elected leaders are puppets doing the bidding of the warmongering neocons of the shadow government. The players in this rigged system ultimately answer only to each other—NOT to us. See Shadow Elite: How the World's New Power Brokers Undermine Democracy, Government, and the Free Market and Unaccountable: How Elite Power Brokers Corrupt our Finances, Freedom, and Security and The Shadow Government.
Elected leaders are puppets doing the bidding of the warmongering neocons of the shadow government
The shadow government's shadow elite undermines democracy and capitalism
U.S. neocons' imperialism and warmongering is out of control yet the Congress tasked with stopping such abuses is mute—something smells rotten in Washington! Another example: the rich shelter, loophole and offshore their way out of paying their fair share of taxes and Congress supports this unfairness without even blinking.
Letting neocons run the decisions in Washington is like letting a fox guard a henhouse
The mainstream press mostly just prints administration press releases; the actual investigative journalism going on died in the 1980s as the shadow government insisted on the press conforming to the party line
Noam Chomsky outlines how propaganda works in the USA to make the dumb American sheep believe whatever the elites want them to believe, using the bought-and-paid-for mainstream media as tools. See Imperial Ambitions: Conversations on the Post-9/11 World.
Here's a link to an amazing Oscar Callaway Quote from the United States Congressional Record of February 9, 1917, page 2947, as entered by Representative Oscar Callaway of Texas, who explained how J.P. Morgan and his rich buddies took control of U.S. mainstream media a century ago, and, for important news stories we've gotten propaganda rather than truth ever since.
News anchors parrot administration memos and CIA talking points, since they're afraid to rock the boat via investigative journalism
If you followed even some of the links above, you can see that government and politics are no longer part of the solution. They are now part of the problem. E.g., Dubya Bush's bogus 2003 invasion of Iraq based on lies he knew were B.S. and which resulted in an eternal war on terror which couldn't possibly ever end or have a positive result since killing 10 terrorists creates 100 terrorists (angry friends and relatives swearing vengeance) and killing 100 creates 1000 terrorists and killing 1000 creates 10,000 terrorists, etc. And OBomb'em's incredibly foolish bungling in the Middle East precipitated the gift that keeps on giving. Herpes? No. Worse—ISIS. And this fool sits around with his buddies on "Terror Tuesday" trying to determine which people on his hit list to kill that week with Hellfire missiles shot from Predator drones. As if the world was a fun video game! Worse, those killed are mere suspects, not proven terrorists, and many innocents die for every terrorist suspect they murder. In 2001 there were 16 names on the Known or Suspected Terrorist list. In 2013 there were 469,000 and there are now more than 680,000 in 2016.
Washington’s fourteen-year targeted drone-based killing campaign suffers from an overreliance on flawed signals intelligence, an apparently incalculable civilian toll, and an inability to extract potentially valuable intelligence from terror suspects
Obama and Dubya love playing God, swatting to death anyone they don't like the looks of
Glad you asked. First, accept that government and politics are no longer going to help and take steps of your own to help yourself and your family and community (see Why Do We Need Communities? and The Responsive Communitarian Platform).
MCs vastly improve the looks and functioning of your neighborhood as they give you free childcare, free elder care, much better friends and relationships, and more social choices—and more viable social choices as well
This was the same neighborhood before it became an MC and changed personnel
DO form MCs. They help you not NEED any government help, as they strengthen families, neighborhoods, and communities. They vastly improve the looks and functioning of your neighborhood, as they give you free childcare, free elder care, much better friends and relationships, and more social choices—and more viable social choices as well. The serious psychological dysfunction (depresson, substance abuse, alienation, hopelessness, feeling oppressed, suicidal thoughts, abuse of spouse and/or kids, violent thoughts, etc.) you now experience as a reaction to being at effect of these political ass clowns will soon be traded in for superior psychological functioning that is a response to setting up your life so it really works—in spite of the political ass clown show the media wants you to pay attention to.
