The Shadow Government
an article by Constitution Society
(our site's article review)
Constitution Society tells us that "Mounting evidence makes it clear that the situation is far worse than most people think, that during the last several decades the U.S. Constitution has been effectively overthrown, and that it is now observed only as a façade to deceive and placate the masses. What has replaced it is what many call the Shadow Government."
It would be useful to examine who exactly is saying that the USA is run by a shadow government—besides our website and thousands of others on the Internet, and besides the Constitution Society. Some of the wisest people anywhere are saying it, people such as Bill Moyers, Peter Dale Scott, and Noam Chomsky are saying it, and so is Tom Engelhardt, Mike Lofgren, Michael J. Glennon, James Perloff, Dr. Carroll Quigley, Joseph Plummer, Steven Hiatt, John Perkins, David Korten, Paul Craig Roberts, William Blum and David Ray Griffin, and so are countless Presidents, Vice Presidents, Mayors and Congressmen as well as the head of the FBI. Here is a sample:
“Today the path to total dictatorship in the U.S. can be laid by strictly legal means … We have a well-organized political-action group in this country, determined to destroy our Constitution and establish a one-party state … It operates secretly, silently, continuously to transform our Government … This ruthless power-seeking elite is a disease of our century… This group … is answerable neither to the President, the Congress, nor the courts. It is practically irremovable.”—U.S. Senator, William Jenner, addressing Congress in 1954
"Today the path to total dictatorship in the U.S. can be laid by strictly legal means … We have a well-organized political-action group in this country, determined to destroy our Constitution" [e.g., NSA]
“There exists a shadowy government with its own Air Force, its own Navy, its own fundraising mechanism, and the ability to pursue its own ideas of the national interest, free from all checks and balances, and free from the law itself.”—U.S. Senator, Daniel K. Inouye
The Shadow Government
" . . . we are opposed around the world by a monolithic and ruthless conspiracy that relies primarily on covert means for expanding its sphere of influence–on infiltration instead of invasion, on subversion instead of elections, on intimidation instead of free choice, on guerrillas by night instead of armies by day. It is a system which has conscripted vast human and material resources into the building of a tightly knit, highly efficient machine that combines military, diplomatic, intelligence, economic, scientific and political operations. Its preparations are concealed, not published. Its mistakes are buried, not headlined. Its dissenters are silenced, not praised. No expenditure is questioned, no rumor is printed, no secret is revealed.”—JFK (His description exactly fits 21st century U.S. empire building to please neocons and enrich oligarchs)
"We are opposed around the world by a monolithic and ruthless conspiracy that relies primarily on covert means for expanding its sphere of influence—on infiltration instead of invasion, on subversion instead of elections"
“Since I entered politics, I have chiefly had men’s views confided to me privately. Some of the biggest men in the United States, in the field of commerce and manufacture, are afraid of somebody, are afraid of something. They know that there is a power somewhere so organized, so subtle, so watchful, so interlocked, so complete, so pervasive, that they had better not speak above their breath when they speak in condemnation of it.”—Woodrow Wilson
"Some of the biggest men in the United States, in the field of commerce and manufacture, are afraid of somebody, are afraid of something"
"It is ironic that the U.S. should be fighting monstrously expensive wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, allegedly to bring democracy to those countries, when it itself can no longer claim to be called a democracy, when trillions, and I mean thousands of billions of dollars have been spent on projects about which both the Congress and the Commander in Chief have been kept deliberately in the dark.”—Canadian Defence Minister Paul Hellyer
“A power has risen up in the government greater than the people themselves, consisting of many and various powerful interests, combined in one mass, and held together by the cohesive power of the vast surplus in banks."—John C. Calhoun, Vice President (1825-1832) and U.S. Senator
“A financial element in the large centers has owned the government ever since the days of Andrew Jackson.”—FDR
“Behind the ostensible government sits enthroned an invisible government owing no allegiance and acknowledging no responsibility to the people. To destroy this invisible government, to befoul the unholy alliance between corrupt business and corrupt politics is the first task of the statesmanship of the day.”—Theodore Roosevelt
“The real menace of our Republic is the invisible government, which like a giant octopus sprawls its slimy legs over our cities, states and nation… The little coterie of powerful international bankers virtually run the United States government for their own selfish purposes. They practically control both parties, … and control the majority of the newspapers and magazines in this country. They use the columns of these papers to club into submission or drive out of office public officials who refuse to do the bidding of the powerful corrupt cliques which compose the invisible government."—New York City Mayor John F. Hylan
"The little coterie of powerful international bankers virtually run the United States government for their own selfish purposes"
"When the Federal Reserve act was passed, the people of the United States did not perceive that a world system was being set up here… and that this country was to supply financial power to an international superstate—a superstate controlled by international bankers and international industrialists acting together to enslave the world for their own pleasure.”—Congressman Louis T. McFadden
William Blum says that no matter how paranoid or conspiracy-minded you are, what the government is actually doing is worse than you imagine. See Rogue State: A Guide to the Worlds Only Superpower.
“The individual is handicapped by coming face-to-face with a conspiracy so monstrous he cannot believe it exists. The American mind simply has not come to a realization of the evil which has been introduced into our midst. It rejects even the assumption that human creatures could espouse a philosophy which must ultimately destroy all that is good and decent.”—J. Edgar Hoover
“The Rockefellers and their allies have, for at least fifty years, been carefully following a plan to use their economic power to gain political control of first America, and then the rest of the world. Do I mean conspiracy? Yes, I do. I am convinced there is such a plot, international in scope, generations old in planning, and incredibly evil in intent.”—Congressman Larry P. McDonald
"Do I mean conspiracy? Yes, I do. I am convinced there is such a plot, international in scope, generations old in planning, and incredibly evil in intent"
“We have a well-organized political-action group in this country, determined to destroy our Constitution and establish a one-party state.”—William Jenner, U.S. Senator
"Some even believe we are part of a secret cabal working against the best interests of the United States, characterizing my family and me as internationalists and of conspiring with others around the world to build a more integrated global political and economic structure — one world, if you will. If that’s the charge, I stand guilty, and I am proud of it.”—David Rockefeller, Sr, chairman of the Council on Foreign Relations and CEO of Chase Manhattan Corporation
Over two thirds of Americans believe government is elected by and for the few in 1991 (and in 1999 it was 75% and in 2012 it was 80%), and most feel powerless. Signs of apathy and alienation are hard to ignore. Polls in 1987 and 1990 showed an increase in the number of Americans who agree that "success in life is pretty much determined by forces outside our control" and that "hard work offers little guarantee of success," and in 2016 it is only getting worse. See Psychological Dysfunction.
In a 2013 Gallup poll, only 10 percent of respondents said they had a great deal or quite a lot of confidence in Congress. ". . . political parties [continue to confirm] suspicions that politicians were more interested in helping themselves and their special interest supporters than in helping their constituents. . . . It’s all on the record should anyone need more proof that the system is both corrupt and dysfunctional. . . . there is a growing sense that the people have lost confidence in their government."
The desires of the constituents that politicians represent are often irrelevant and usually secondary to special interests
The authors say that "Mounting evidence makes it clear that the situation is far worse than most people think, that during the last several decades the U.S. Constitution has been effectively overthrown, and that it is now observed only as a façade to deceive and placate the masses. What has replaced it is what many call the Shadow Government. It still, for the most part, operates in secret, because its control is not secure. The exposure of this regime and its operations must now become a primary duty of citizens who still believe in the Rule of Law and in the freedoms which this country is supposed to represent."
The unelected elites are the lords of secrecy—they are unaccountable, secret, and beyond our reach, yet they run things
Letting neocons run the decisions in Washington is like letting a fox guard a henhouse
One of the authors' main cures for a shadow government replacing legitimate government is exposure. It works in principle, but not in reality. This article was written in 1994, before 9/11 and before the neocons stole the 2000 election and helped Bush start an eternal "War on Terror." There have been countless books and articles before and after this one that attempted to expose this shadow government stuff, and although millions of citizens listened, no one did a damn thing and nothing changed. Keep writing blogs and articles and books as well as letters to Congresspeople about your extreme concern at the death of democracy, free speech, and the Constitution and their replacement with an unelected shadow government. Just don't expect anyone to change anything because of it. We are doing our part to expose the bastards and so should you and all other patriots. See Democracy—an American Delusion and Freedom of the Press—an American Delusion and The Deep State: The Fall of the Constitution and the Rise of a Shadow Government.
9/11 terrorist attack
U.S. neocons' imperialism and warmongering is out of control yet the Congress tasked with stopping such abuses is mute—something smells rotten in Washington! The game is rigged. Bailouts? The biggest companies got help while the little guy got the finger.
The way the authors see it, "The Shadow Government, even more than the old Soviet regime, depends on secrecy. Uncover it and it loses most of its power. We need to end black budgets, require the declassification of most classified documents, especially those pertaining to UFOs and aliens, and adopt and enforce sunshine laws to require full disclosure of not just meetings and agreements among officials, but also among major organizations of all kinds which may exercise an undue influence on political decisions. We must also require independent audits of all such organizations."
This fails to explain how anyone can undo black budgets, overclassification of documents, etc. The shadow government installed these policies and even if the legitimate government decided to undo them, they haven't got the power—the shadow government has it and they aren't about to shoot themselves in the foot.
The shadow government has the power and they aren't about to shoot themselves in the foot
So it was aliens that did 9/11—who knew?!!!
Note the "UFOs and aliens" nonsense that gets thrown in innocently. Why did this happen? The effect it has gives a hint about who inserted it and why. It has the effect of invalidating the rest of the article and making anyone who believes in shadow government stuff fall into the same category as the alien believing crowd—e.i., the wacko, paranoid, conspiracy theorist nuts. The people reading the article will dismiss it all as nonsense. This gives us an idea of who wrote it—or inserted the alien stuff. The CIA has been pulling disinformation stunts like this for many decades, and they even admit it. Interestingly, most of the article is right on regarding the shadow government, so the idea is to "throw a terd in the punch bowl" so the entire contents are dismissed as tainted.
CIA disinformation stunts are done so entire contents are dismissed as tainted—like a terd in a punch bowl
The other way that the powers-that-be (the shadow government) as opposed to the powers-that-pretend (elected leaders) discredit ideas, theories, writers, bloggers and speakers is to paint them with the "conspiracy theorists" brush. The shadow bastards took a page from the Republicans' playbook. You remember them. They're the ones that turned the word liberal into a dirty word so it got the pejorative insult "the L word" thrown at it, knowing full well the Democrats could not fight fire with fire via use of "the C word"! The G.O.P. got the L word conspiracy off the ground with P.R. tricks and slanted mass media articles and tireless repetition. Whenever you see the bought-and-paid-for mainstream media label something as "conspiracy theorists" ravings, it is usually because something they said was embarrassingly true.
"The-Powers-That-Be fear above all that the people might rise up and overthrow them, something that the people could still do if they could ever act in concert. Social control therefore becomes a matter of keeping them placated, divided, and misinformed," says the Constitution Society. Rising up against the leaders would be dumb, because they are not the ones in control and the shadow government knows we have no way of knowing who they are. And even if we did, with all the NSA surveillance and undercover operatives around, how could any organized plan or actions go undetected? Even sending highly encrypted emails to each other would not help the rebels since the intelligence agencies can crack anything. The FBI cracked the San Bernardino terrorist’s phone with the help of professional hackers. They didn't need Apple's help—after all that fuss.
There is no violent way out our shadow government dilemma, so forget that idea. It would just kick in dreaded martial law and C.O.G. (continuity of government) procedures
So if some ignorant ass clowns show up in Washington D.C. with guns and attitudes, the government will be happy to carpet bomb them as a lesson to other would-be rebels. There is no violent way out our shadow government dilemma, so forget that idea. It would just kick in dreaded martial law and C.O.G. (continuity of government) procedures. A better idea for us patriots is convincing everyone to stop voting (once Obama is gone since we do NOT want him past 2016!) as a way of registering a vote of no confidence. Also, peaceful protests in ALL cities. Also, help social evolution along so that people with character get elected eventually.
We are hoping one of you patriotic Americans knows one of the few powerful people in a position to help us turn this country around
