Clinton Cash: The Untold Story of How and Why Foreign Governments and Businesses Helped Make Bill and Hillary Rich
a book by Peter Schweizer
(our site's book review)
The Amazon blurb says that The definitive takedown by the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Secret Empires.
In 2000, Bill and Hillary Clinton owed millions of dollars in legal debt. Since then, they’ve earned over $130 million. Where did the money come from? Most people assume that the Clintons amassed their wealth through lucrative book deals and high-six figure fees for speaking gigs. Now, Peter Schweizer shows who is really behind those enormous payments.
In his New York Times bestselling books Extortion and Throw Them All Out, Schweizer detailed patterns of official corruption in Washington that led to congressional resignations and new ethics laws. In Clinton Cash: The Untold Story of How and Why Foreign Governments and Businesses Helped Make Bill and Hillary Rich, he follows the Clinton money trail, revealing the connection between their personal fortune, their “close personal friends,” the Clinton Foundation, foreign nations, and some of the highest ranks of government.
Schweizer reveals the Clinton’s troubling dealings in Kazakhstan, Colombia, Haiti, and other places at the “wild west” fringe of the global economy. In this blockbuster exposé, Schweizer merely presents the troubling facts he’s uncovered. Meticulously researched and scrupulously sourced, filled with headline-making revelations, Clinton Cash: The Untold Story of How and Why Foreign Governments and Businesses Helped Make Bill and Hillary Rich raises serious questions of judgment, of possible indebtedness to an array of foreign interests, and ultimately, of fitness for high public office.

“They made speeches for a lot of money and then things happened, I mean, if you read that book, that book is amazing.”— Donald Trump, quoted in Breitbart News
"Mr. Schweizer, a former speechwriting consultant for George W. Bush, will have conservatives trying to imagine a Republican appearing to do so many favors for business allies and getting away with it. Liberals will wonder why they have to nominate someone whose friends and associates are getting rich in some of the world’s poorest countries. ‘The Clintons’ most lucrative transactions originate not in places like Germany or Great Britain, where business and politics are kept separate by stringent ethical rules and procedures,’ writes Mr. Schweizer, ‘but in despotic areas of the developing world where the rules are very different.’
"He then takes us on a world tour of business magnates writing large checks to the Clintons or their foundation and receiving favorable treatment from various governmental bodies—including the U.S. Department of State where Mrs. Clinton served from 2009 to 2013. Where the particular government required to help a Clinton associate was of the less democratic variety, the favorable treatment was sometimes accompanied by Bill Clinton effusively praising the local strongman for his enlightened rule." — (Source: There’s Money to Be Made , James Freeman, The Wall Street Journal)

“Thank goodness, then, for Peter Schweizer and his blockbuster expose Clinton Cash: The Untold Story of How and Why Foreign Governments and Businesses Helped Make Bill and Hillary Rich— The New York Post
“…a highly effective takedown.”— Peggy Noonan
“On any fair reading, the pattern of behavior that Schweizer has charged is corruption.”— Lawrence Lessig, Harvard Law School Professor
“The new book Clinton Cash: The Untold Story of How and Why Foreign Governments and Businesses Helped Make Bill and Hillary Rich is compelling reading on how Bill and Hillary have mixed personal wealth, power, and influence peddling.”— Jeffrey D. Sachs, Columbia University Earth Institute Director
Why mix personal wealth, power, and influence peddling? Hillary is rolling around in the answer!
“[Schweizer] is an equal-opportunity investigator, snaring Republicans as well as Democrats.”— Eleanor Clift, Progressive columnist
“Clinton Cash: The Untold Story of How and Why Foreign Governments and Businesses Helped Make Bill and Hillary Rich provides a damning portrait of elite and circumspect power and influence.”— Nomi Prins, Demos Senior Fellow
“Schweizer reports on the Clintons’ enormous graft and corruption…There never has been a family like this in American history, not the Longs of Louisiana, not the scamps at Tammany Hall. The Clintons are a first, and with the help of journalists and then investigators they could be the last.”— American Spectator
“The most anticipated and feared book of a presidential cycle”— The New York Times
Well, Bill just made another one of his hollow, useless speeches to a room full of people pretending to listen—so here's a million bucks, okay?
"Overall, Clinton Cash: The Untold Story of How and Why Foreign Governments and Businesses Helped Make Bill and Hillary Rich is best described as an exercise in question begging, in which you assume your conclusion in the premise of your argument. Schweizer believes that the Clintons are corrupt influence peddlers who have enriched themselves at the expense of America’s interests, and he’s written a book to justify himself. What he hasn’t done is written a book that proves his claims. Instead, all he has is a compendium of bad decisions and gross behavior that a more sober-minded writer could have used to make a real hit on the Clintons. As it stands, they will brush this off like they have most attacks from the right. . . . Clinton Cash is all innuendo, and no proof." They made speeches for a lot of money and then things happened, I mean, if you read that book, that book is amazing, said Trump
The Clintons have never changed their tactics from the very first national scandal, "Travelgate." Hillary wanted to put her own buddies in the jobs that have been done by career staffers. Hillary wasn't content to just fire them unjustly, she sicced the FBI and the IRS on them and destroyed their lives as well as their good names. The Clintons were exonerated in the end, but not without high cost to the U.S. taxpayer. The pattern of Clintons abusing their power and influence to reward cronies and enrich themselves greatly expanded in both the amount and the global reach as the 20th century turned into the 21st century.
Eventually they were doing more than squashing innocent American citizens. The Clintons were happy to accept huge bribes from foreign businessmen and from leaders of countries who treat their own people deplorably. Shortly after the Clintons got those amazing bribes labeled as "gifts," the givers received contracts, trade agreements favorable to them, access to leaders, and so on. The Clintons grew more and more wealthy and powerful from their crooked deals which they refused to disclose, while at the same time they were piously telling us how much they "care" about the common man and how committed to "transparency" they were.
Hillary thought of Trump supporters as a 'basket of deplorables'—it sounds like she didn't 'care' about these common people after all
Of course, Obozo followed the Clinton formula while president, siccing the FBI and the IRS on opponents, slandering reporters and other citizens who didn't like him, jailing whistleblowers—the list is endless. Business as usual under Obama, the king of liars, had been a huge disapointment to most of the liberals whose heads were not in the sand. To those liberals who were paying attention, Obama was Bush 2.0 with darker skin, not only not cancelling Dubya's neocon warmongering, but exacerbating it so that drone murdering increased and the Middle East situation got bungled so horribly that ISIS was formed.
Obozo convinced many blinded-by-attempting-to-avoid-looking-racist liberals that he was not a crook, in spite of all his corruption—but we know better

A guest on the History News Network, Kevin Schmidt, put it rather cynically, but facts are facts:
- Oh look, it's another over-the-top, angry, emotional, illogical misanthropic Hillary shill troll, who wants to elect a fascist pig just because the fascist pig is a woman.
- Bill Clinton slaughtered over 500,000 innocent civilians in Iraq [with his barbaric sanctions that starved them].
- He also signed NAFTA and other free trade treaties that decimated the manufacturing base in America, and helped keep wages from increasing for the past 35 years.
- He also helped eliminate the banking laws, that then enabled the Wall Street Banksters to rip off the working class and cause the Great Recession. [This was unforgiveable and it really did cause the 2008 disaster.]
- Hillary has proven to be in bed with Wall Street, the banksters and the fossil fuel monopoly.
- Hillary wants to pass TPP for the corporations, which will destroy what is left of the Constitution.
- That makes Crooked Hillary a political whore, just like her husband, just like Obozo, and just like most members of Congress in the Democratic-Republican Corporate Duopoly Party, Inc." (now tell us how you really feel!)
Another book that finds Hillary's character lacking: Crisis of Character: A White House Secret Service Officer Discloses His Firsthand Experience with Hillary, Bill, and How They Operate.
To keep this fair and balanced, there is a book written by Hillary that is probably the best book ever written by a first lady: It Takes a Village. Here is the special 10th anniversary version: It Takes a Village, Tenth Anniversary Edition.
If we CAN believe Schweizer, Clinton Cash: The Untold Story of How and Why Foreign Governments and Businesses Helped Make Bill and Hillary Rich is a book that proves its worth by the thorough research found in each chapter. If there was any justice in the world, these are several corrupt people who belong in the pokey:
Here is Hillary finally getting some consequences for all her corrupt dealings
Here are Dubya and Obozo finally getting some consequences for all their corrupt dealings
But that is just a dream—here is where they really are!
Clinton Cash: The Untold Story of How and Why Foreign Governments and Businesses Helped Make Bill and Hillary Rich goes into much detail as to how the Clintons have unscrupulously and clandestinely gathered millions of dollars of personal income via deals, promises, exchanges, and bribes, via the U.S. State Department, funneling and laundering funds through the Clinton Foundation, and even direct payments from other countries, or from powerful and influential people around the world.
As a result of the Clintons having to pay some $850,000+ in 'buy-offs' to the women Bill Clinton had affairs with, the Clintons said 'they were broke'—surely this deserves crocodile tears!
Clinton Cash: The Untold Story of How and Why Foreign Governments and Businesses Helped Make Bill and Hillary Rich is a 2015 New York Times bestselling book by Peter Schweizer in which he investigates donations made to the Clinton Foundation by foreign entities, paid speeches made by Bill and Hillary Clinton, and the state of the Clintons' finances since leaving the White House in 2001. Schweizer wrote the book using researchers from the Government Accountability Institute (GAI), an institution Schweizer formed with the then-Executive Chairman of Breitbart News, Steve Bannon. The Mercer Family Foundation funded the $2.6 million cost of producing the book. In May 2016, a film adaptation of the book, funded by co-founder of Government Accountability Institute and Breitbart News executive chairman Steve Bannon (CEO of the Donald Trump presidential campaign, 2016), was screened at the Cannes Film Festival. A graphic novel adaptation of the book, written by Chuck Dixon and illustrated by Brett R. Smith, was released by Regnery Publishing on August 8, 2016
While foreign governments and businesses were helping make Bill and Hillary rich ($151,000,000), just how much did she worry about the poor, the oppressed, the disadvantaged, the disabled, or the downtrodden? Zero. And here she is admitting it!
If we CANNOT believe Schweizer, Clinton Cash: The Untold Story of How and Why Foreign Governments and Businesses Helped Make Bill and Hillary Rich is a book to avoid, because of the fact that Donald Trump's presidential campaign CEO, Steve Bannon, is behind the book and Bannon is Executive Chairman of Breitbart News (a notorious alt-right fake news and conspiracy website) makes the book seem like somewhere between a hit piece, fake news, rightwing propaganda, misinformation, and a possibly legitimate attempt at investigative journalism. Remember, correlation is not causation, so things that occur closely in time may be unrelated, and innuendo to the contrary may be hogslop.
As Peter Schweizer's book aptly demonstrates, Hillary and Bill shot themselves in the feet with their own endless greed, so the citizens kept them out of the White House in the 2016 election
The connection to Steve Bannon and Breitbart News (a notorious alt-right fake news and conspiracy website) makes the book seem like somewhere between a hit piece, fake news, rightwing propaganda, misinformation, and legitimate reporting
"Staffers back at Brooklyn campaign headquarters will be looking to knock down claims in a new book alleging Clinton did favors while at the State Department for big donors to her family’s foundation and for entities that paid big speaking fees to former President Bill Clinton. The book, Clinton Cash: The Untold Story of How and Why Foreign Governments and Businesses Helped Make Bill and Hillary Rich, by Peter Schweizer, might ordinarily be dismissed as another in a long line of supposed exposes aimed at the Clintons but based on thin sourcing and innuendo. Indeed, Clinton supporters are already looking to do exactly that.
"The problem here is not necessarily that Schweitzer will be able to prove any connection between foundation donations, Clinton speeches and State Department actions. If he does, that would be enormously explosive and damaging to Clinton’s candidacy. Instead, the issue is really that anyone can make these kinds of allegations by simply highlighting all the money raised by the foundation and earned by Bill Clinton, including from foreign governments and corporations, and connect them in time with official actions from Hillary Clinton’s tenure in office. Correlation is not causation. But in politics it can still be damaging." (Source: Can Hillary turn the page on controversial new book?, Ben White, CNBC)
"Forbes estimates that the Clintons are worth a combined $45 million. They spent $95 million on taxes, their two houses cost a combined $5 million, and they gave $22 million to charity from 2001-14, according to historical tax returns and property records." [total earnings since 2001: over 230 million bucks]" (Source: How The Clintons Have Made $230 Million Since Leaving The White House, Dan Alexander, Forbes)
No wonder people go into politics!
Scam Exposed(?) Are the Clintons mere snake-oil salesmen, selling political favors with their foundation?
"Now, fresh financial documents show that contributions and grants to the Clinton Foundation plunged since Hillary lost her election bid. They dropped from $216 million in 2016 to just $26.5 million in 2017 — a stunning 88% fall. Throughout Clinton's tenure as Secretary of State, the foundation pulled in an average of $254 million a year. If the Clinton Foundation was as good as defenders claimed, why did all its big-time donors suddenly lose interest? The only reasonable explanation is that donors weren't interested in what the foundation supposedly did for humanity. They were interested in the political favors they knew their money would buy." This kind of character assassination (not to mention fake news and Russian hacking) outside of any proof, or indictment or conviction, is what killed Clinton's chances and made possible putting in a creature such as Trump
One Amazon reviewer, Samantha Atkins, thinks the book is "Complete garbage. Filled with allegations that either led to no investigation or led to investigation with grossly insufficient evidence to prove any wrongdoing. This kind of character assassination outside of any proof, or indictment or conviction, is what killed Clinton's chances and made possible putting in a creature such as Trump. The people making money on this sort of thing or spreading it for free should be deeply ashamed." (She has a point—where is the proof indeed?)
