America On Suicide Watch: The Rise Of The Progressive Superstate And The Fall Of The American “Idea”
a book by Richter Watkins
(our site's book review)
The Amazon blurb says that AMERICA IS SLEEPWALKING TOWARD ANARCHY. WE ARE ONE MAJOR CRISIS AWAY FROM FALLING APART.
Richter Watkins' powerful non-fiction political analysis AMERICA ON SUICIDE WATCH describes the self-inflicted wounds that destroy great nations. His eye-opening revelations shed light on how the radical left is systematically destroying the American 'idea'.
Watkins advocates a national resurgence of the fundamental American values and a rebellion against the corrupt Washington establishment oligarchy. It may be our last opportunity to save everything we have fought for throughout our history.
This book's a wakeup call with a familiar theme: Anger. As the guy in the movie Network told us to do, go to your windows, open them and stick your head out and yell - 'I'm as mad as hell and I'm not going to take this anymore!' 'We have heard that the word of the year is “post-truth,” but perhaps most importantly, the mood of the year is anger. The post-truth world takes on frightening proportions because it is wrapped in anger. That means it’s time to do some anger management. But here’s the catch. Anger management in the Trump era is no longer a call to settle down and be civil. It’s a call to understand where and when and how to be angry; and where and when and how to cool off.' America On Suicide Watch: The Rise Of The Progressive Superstate And The Fall Of The American “Idea” is an 'I'm mad as hell' anti-establishment wakeup call. From our near fatal birth at Plymouth Rock to our historic battles against slavery, Nazism and Communism he reveals who we are and what our current battle for survival demands of us.
'I'm as mad as hell and I'm not going to take this anymore!'
It's time to return America to its innate greatness and stop bowing to the progressive agenda [especially the political correctness part].
The same bowing to the progressive agenda is happening with our TV viewing
The same bowing to the progressive agenda is happening with our computer screens
America is staring into the abyss and, as Nietzsche suggested, the abyss is staring back
Watkins begins his book with insight and flair: "America is staring into the abyss and, as Nietzsche suggested, the abyss is staring back. The shovels that dig the graves of nations are massive debt, corrupt bureaucracies and a leadership in the throes of delusional visions. It’s not the first time America faced destruction by its own misguided leaders. The rebellion brewing isn’t a simple election insurrection by the disgruntled. It is a deep and profound awakening. America is once again facing a major civil and constitutional conflict.
America is once again facing a major civil and constitutional conflict
The very beginning of this nation was nearly stillborn at Plymouth Rock when a collectivist religious order failed 400 years ago. But after that near disaster they were saved by an amazing reversal of course and the birth of a new ‘idea’ that would end up being codified in the Constitution and Bill of Rights and lead to the greatest political experiment and success in history.
Pilgrims land at Plymouth Rock
That great ‘idea’ of social, political and economic freedom is being seriously challenged once again by a renewed collectivist mindset. Socialist tribal collectivism keeps coming back, like the undead, just in different clothes.

Whether we can reverse course, as we have several times in the past, one thing is clear. Americans will not go quietly into the dark night. The purpose of this book is to lay the groundwork, reveal the underlying conflict, and suggest the urgency of the battle ahead if we are to avoid the fate of those great nations who have failed to preserve their core values and committed suicide.
Many advanced nations are having difficulties striking the right balance between individuality, initiative, and freedom on the one hand and community, collectivism, compassion on the other
Our nation is on course to return to a collectivist basis with more than a hint of Marxist thought underlying the endeavor: "From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs." The principle refers to free access and distribution of goods, capital and services. Capitalism allows freedom with hard work and innovation rewarded and laziness unrewarded. Communism theoretically follows free access and distribution of goods, capital and services in which loyalty to the Party and leaders and country will motivate hard work and creativity. But human nature kicked in and the leaders became greedy and corrupt, while the workers did only what was needed to get by because there was no real incentive to do otherwise. The "From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs" motto quickly degenerated into "we pretend to work and they pretend to pay us."
Our nation is on course to return to a collectivist basis with more than a hint of Marxist thought underlying the endeavor: 'From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs'—free access and distribution of goods, capital and services
It turns out that—Marx notwithstanding—work needs incentive beyond patriotism and altruism. As 19th century American farmers learned, hard work was incentivised by the desire to be well fed and clothed in warm garments in a warm house. Those who would not do their part found no mate and ended up cold, hungry, and—eventually—dead. This lesson is as old as mankind itself. Hard workers survive, lazy workers barely survived, nonworkers didn't survive. So of course crime was invented by the lazy so they could get what they needed without having to work for it. Law and order was invented to prevent criminal actions from becoming a pattern. Societies formed around common needs for specialized labor (butcher, blacksmith, sherriff, attorney, painter, etc.), safety, communal activities, mate meeting, barn raising, and fire extinguishing.
The Pilgrims tried religious altruism as a motivator, which failed (half died); then they tried hard work and innovation rewarded and laziness unrewarded, which worked
The Pilgrims were the first European settlers in North America. They tried religious altruism as a motivator, half of them died, and they decided in 1623 that freedom with hard work and innovation rewarded and laziness unrewarded was a better way to go, since it had worked for centuries. Their experiment based on religious altruism as a motivator was based on a fallacy, the fallacy that the good morals in holy books were really what motivated people. The good morals in holy books motivated moral thoughts and deeds and spirituality—sometimes—but fell far shy of the mark when it came to motivating humans to be hardworking.
The Colonies rebelled against British oppression and formed a new nation with a great Constitution and Bill of Rights—the best political experiment ever
So, later, the Colonies rebelled against British oppression and formed a new nation with a great Constitution and Bill of Rights. Capitalism was created to deal with the economic side of life. Then some capitalists got greedy and mean and treated others unfairly, and it's been that way ever since, with some exploiting the rest. And the elderly and disabled needed care—they always have. So a bit of social security was in order. What developed was Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security so those too old to work would have a buffer against homelessness, starvation, and freezing.
When great nations fall, they fall on their own swords. The suicide of a great nation or empire is always preceded by generations that have lost contact with the core values that made their societies great in the first place
The back cover of the book says "WHEN GREAT NATIONS FALL, THEY FALL ON THEIR OWN SWORDS. The suicide of a great nation or empire is always preceded by generations that have lost contact with the core values that made their societies great in the first place. America's constitutional republic, created by our Founders during the Golden Age of political thought, became the most exceptional economic and political force in history. Are we now on a path to self-imposed destruction?
The progressive agenda (their religion) ambition is to transform this nation into a 'social justice' Superstate that will rise on the ruins of the old, despised 'white privilege' capitalist republic
This stated ambition to transform this nation into a politically correct "social justice" Superstate that will rise on the ruins of the old, despised "white privilege" capitalist republic is dangerous, naive, foolish, wrongheaded, and based on several falsehoods.
Universities are sick, believing it is their job to indoctrinate rather than teach
The first falsehood is that universities should dump freedoms and degenerate into institutions of indoctrination instead of learning. Everything about this idea is wrong. "White victimizer and black victim" is a terribly racist and humiliating and demeaning concept. The US had slaves until people realized it was wrong and then they quit having them. They didn't give blacks full rights until they realized it wasn't fair in the 1960s and 1970s. So the blacks got the rights they'd waited for. This is social progress and evolution at the speed the citizens were ready to accept it. Blaming and complaining it wasn't faster is simply unnatural—like trying to "push the river."
'White victimizer and black victim' is a terribly racist and humiliating and demeaning concept to be brainwashing students with
Trying to 'push the river' is a fool's errand: social progress and evolution go at the speed citizens are ready to accept it—bitching at all those 'evil white males' that kept slaves would be right if it happened today, but bitching about it happening centuries ago is stupid because it is an anachronism
The second falsehood is that political correctness is based upon perfect, absolute facts and great wisdom. Everything about this idea is wrong—especially how SJWs are applying their ideas and how the Supreme Court allowed PC fanatics to push acceptance of affirmative action, which is racism by another name. Ask Justice Thomas, the black member of the Supreme Court, who—like us—sees affirmative action as wrong and racist.
The third falsehood is that the unfair things that happened to blacks before the 1970s prove these white people were evil scum, not deserving of respect. PC idiocy says that if the people who birthed our country based upon THEIR morals and values do not live up to 21st century morals and values then we need to rewrite history, denigrate all white males, and cease accepting the wonderful things they did as worthy, rebuild our society, rejecting despised "white privilege" capitalist republic ideas, and strive to force social justice down everyone's throats in schools and in society at large WHETHER PEOPE LIKE IT OR NOT! Everything about this idea is wrong. People that think and act like these PC fanatics simply do not understand how social evolution works, and they need to go LEARN more, not spread their ignorance.
The fourth falsehood is that Antifa and other social justice warriors, including school administrators, should be allowed to dump the Bill of Rights and attack conservatives (who wisely do not buy the PC nonsense) and attack others who do not agree with them BECAUSE THEY THINK POLITICAL CORRECTNESS IS AN ABSOLUTE UNIVERSAL GOOD WHOSE IDEAS ARE ALL PERFECT AND BLESSED BY THE SECULAR GOD NAMED SOCIAL JUSTICE. Everything about this idea is wrong. The Constitution doesn't make exceptions like if you believe your ideas are more "right" than others' ideas, or you are an "evil white male," or you are conservative and thereby "stupid and evil." If our Constitution had such exceptions, it woudn't be worth anything—it would be a document of privilege in which Blacks and Liberals have more rightness and morality than others so they should have higher privileges and status than evil white males. As stated, everything about this idea is wrong. The world needs less people exploiting privilege, not more.
Antifa and other social justice warriors, including school administrators, believe they should be allowed to dump the Bill of Rights and attack conservatives with no consequence
Note: Social justice warrior (SJW) is a pejorative term for an individual who promotes socially progressive views, including feminism, civil rights, and multiculturalism, as well as identity politics. The accusation that somebody is an SJW carries implications that they are pursuing personal validation rather than any deep-seated conviction, and engaging in disingenuous arguments. They're so strongly indoctrinated by liberal colleges they believe they're untouchable knights of the Crusades. See:

The ladder of class mobility has been rigged so nonrich can never get rich
Watkins blames entitlements all through the book, but never blames corporate welfare spending or the greed of those who choke actual prosperity by rigging the game in their favor. On the other hand his contrast of the Marxist collectivist mindset with the capitalist American constitutional republic's values of hard work and self responsibility is very good and insightful.
