The Propaganda Project
a book by Phil M. Williams

The Amazon blurb asks: What if it's all a lie?
Since birth, human beings are bombarded by propaganda from the media, religion, schooling, government, culture, and even our friends and family. How do we know our thoughts are really our own?
In a world of infinite information and propaganda screaming at us from every angle, the truth is of paramount importance to our mental health, and can be a matter of life and death for every person on this planet. In The Propaganda Project, I expose the tricks of the propagandist—the tricks needed to legitimize the illegitimate, to make us think up is down, black is white. I dig deep into the muck to extract the truth about government, and the financial interests pulling the strings.
Williams says 'I hope you’ll open your mind and journey with me into the belly of the beast. For the rest of you, don’t worry, the best slaves think they’re free'
I hope you’ll open your mind and journey with me into the belly of the beast. For the rest of you, don’t worry, the best slaves think they’re free. See also these books, which discuss the different methods of propaganda and control used on the American people:

The people remain ignorant, manipulated, and gullible, never knowing they're constantly drinking the Kool-Aid and being brainwashed into following elite agendas that often go against their own interests
Propaganda keeps us obedient, distracted, consuming, but never questioning the CW, the media, the authorities
In Williams' book The Propaganda Project we are shown how we are indoctrinated continuously from birth in all aspects of life all the while giving up the freedom we think we have. It's simple. There are elites. They are greedy. They grab hold of the reins of power, then they use their position to gain even more power and wealth. This pleases them. As they acquire wealth, they notice democracy and truth getting in the way of their profits. They don't like this. So they undercut democracy at every turn, deregulating so they can pollute as much as they want to maximize profits. This keeps cutting into our right to breathe fresh air and our freedom to drink healthy water.
We complain, but instead of stopping it like decent human beings, they lay propaganda on us that distracts us from the truth or they lie to our faces and say they have studies that prove the pollution will not hurt us, or the manmade global warming theory is wrong, and then they undermine government agencies that protect us so there's no longer any protection from the polluters. We are prevented from seeing these ugly truths by propaganda that denies these truths and propaganda that distracts us from these truths and propaganda that proves our experience is a delusion and there are "alternative facts" that prove it. The distractions from the real truth are so irresistable that we end up chasing shiny objects instead of truths, forgetting all about the ugly truths and malevolent realities. The point of propaganda is to enable immoral people to do evil without us feeling able to do anything effective to stop it. The strategy is to get us to give up but then hurry and distract us, changing the subject by giving us shiny objects to chase.
The Digital Age is dumbing us down into texting, video game-playing, social networking, distracted morons chasing shiny objects
TV has become the monster that sucks our brains from our skulls as it dumbs us down and teaches us to be loyal consumers of mostly unhealthy products we do not need, so record stuff and fast-forward through ads, or mute them when they're on

According to Brave New World, Revisited, Philosophy teaches us to doubt what is evident to us. Propaganda, on the contrary, teaches us to accept as obvious what is reasonable to doubt.
CW means conventional wisdom, but the term is a misnomer—much of what is CW is really propaganda which everyone accepts as true not because of evidence but because of how mercilessly the mainstream media conditions us repeatedly about the matter until it becomes what everyone knows. As Williams' book points out, your beliefs are a function not of proven facts or revealed evidence but of conditioning, mind control, media manipulation, lies, and out-and-out propaganda. In less free societies, what you believe is irrelevant since if you get out of line, you are stomped on, serving as a lesson for other would-be rebels. In this society, nontraditional beliefs that do not tow the party line are labelled as conspiracy theories from wackos. It is irrelevant that the nontraditional beliefs that do not tow the party line are the actual truth and the CW beliefs that DO tow the party line are lying propaganda. It is only relevant that you believe what the elites want you to believe so you will be obedient little citizens that support corrupt politicians and corrupt wars we cannot afford and believe that the wars on drugs and terrorism are what they say they are. Hint: they aren't.
The elites not only want conformity, they use propaganda to teach it, they use mind control techniques to condition it, and they use the mainstream media as propaganda tools.
The elites want conformity, so when Trump passes a tax bill that screws the nonrich but fabulously enriches the already rich, you don't run screaming into the streets in protest. You bend over and grab your ankles and take it, quietly, without a peep of protest even when it hurts. The elites not only want conformity, they use propaganda to teach it, they use mind control techniques to condition it, and they use the mainstream media as propaganda tools. See Manufacturing Consent: The Political Economy of the Mass Media and Requiem for the American Dream: The 10 Principles of Concentration of Wealth & Power, the most important book of the 21st century.
Warmongering neocon elites wished to make lots of money by wrecking a country and rebuilding it, with elite oligarchs sticking all the enormous profits (YOUR money) into their full-to-bursting money bins
If you believed there may have been WMDs in Iraq so we should invade them, it has nothing whatever to do with truth or reality or WMDs or dangers (Cheney warned of "mushroom clouds over Manhattan." The WMD crap was all a filthy lie and he knew it). It had to do with the mainstream media used as propaganda tools to fill your head with self-serving nonsense that supports elite empire building desires. In this case, warmongering neocon elites wished to make lots of money by wrecking a country and rebuilding it, with elite oligarchs sticking all the enormous profits into their full-to-bursting money bins. Whose money? YOUR money—YOU paid for that war, whose purpose was to transfer wealth from the U.S. nonrich to the U.S. rich. Did you bitch about it and take to the streets? No. You conformed, like a good little citizen, just like they conditioned you to. You kept telling yourself the CW lie: It's a war on terror! The truth is it's a war OF terror, as everyone in the Middle East knows. In fact, everyone in the world but U.S. citizens know that. Here, we get the TRUTH FILTER.
Our government censors or covers up anything they don't want the public getting wise to, like their unreported imperialism—the U.S. press has a truth filter
In their landmark book, Manufacturing Consent, Edward Herman and Noam Chomsky explained the "propaganda model" that controls the public message by "filtering" disturbing truths, "leaving behind only the cleansed residue fit to print" or air. (As in our truth filter above.) They say truth is the first casualty of war, and the U.S. empire builders are always at war so . . . do the math.
A war OF terror is one in which our troops so insult their citizens and way of life and so terrorize innocents and sometimes kill innocents that this creates terrorism. There were almost no terrorists when U.S. troops arrived, but after mistreating enough citizens, there were plenty. Then when we started killing their citizens with Predator drones (they killed more innocents than terrorists—it's a fact), our military became a terrorist factory. Kill one terrorist, create ten more who swore vengeance on the U.S. and join ISIS. Studies have shown that there is more terrorism now than before we sent military to the Middle East and that both U.S. and European citizens are less safe now and they feel less safe. So much for the "War ON Terror" propaganda!

Iraqis were better off under Saddam—We'll not be surprised if Iraqis start seeing billboards with 'Miss me yet?' under Saddam's picture!
The Propaganda Project covers propaganda by the media, religion, school, government, culture, friends, family, infinite information, mental health, and the tricks of propagandists to try to make you think the way they want you to. Much of it is the same principle as with advertising: create desires—telling them what they want or should want, repeat ads endlessly, show famous people desiring or buying or using the thing. Make people feel they're unpatriotic or lacking in sex appeal or a loser if they don't own one or at least strongly desire to have one. Cheney's WMD message about "mushroom clouds over Manhattan" on the talk show circuit made you either a believer or you were an unpatriotic loser if you saw through his baloney and realized he was looking to get his Halliburton company rolling in cash. Emotional appeals are rarely if ever based on facts—and, let's be honest, the way you can tell if Mr. Cheney is lying is simple: he is lying if his mouth is moving.
Mind control—make people feel they're unpatriotic or lacking in sex appeal or a loser if they don't own one or at least strongly desire to have one
"In a world of infinite information and propaganda screaming at us from every direction, the truth is of paramount importance to our mental health, and can be a matter of life and death for every person on this planet. Without truth, we have pointless wars, violence, and needless suffering. Ultimately, it’s all about the truth," according to the author.
Truth—rest in peace
Williams says: "I may not care about politics, but I do care about freedom. I wrote this book because I believe we will never be truly free without independent thought. And we can’t have independent thought without facing our biases and the propaganda that’s shaped them. I detail the mind control we’ve been subjected to since birth. By revealing the magician’s tricks, hopefully we can break away and make our own choices."
This is a great point. If you don't know about the propaganda that has been and is being conditioned in to the public constantly, how can you protect yourself from their lies? About movies, sports, and Kim Kardasian's backside, we mostly get the truth from the media, except for ads disguised as content. About national issues, international issues, governmental issues and political issues, we get whatever the shadow government determines is advantageous to their interests. How did we let this happen? Well, it all started a century ago when elites got control of the media: Freedom of the Press—an American Delusion
