Modern political systems of all types bring forth leaders with characteristics psychiatrists call psychopathic
Say—Whose Side Are These Politicians On, Anyway?!
For political survival, government decisions are short-term and short-sighted. No politician first acts for the welfare of his/her constituents and then considers the political consequences of that act. By the very nature of the personality that brought him/her into politics in the first place, the politician must first consider the political consequences, and then if something is safe politically, carry out the act. Modern political systems of all types bring forth leaders with characteristics psychiatrists call psychopathic: an extraordinary desire to control others (negative power), megalomania, arrogance, unwillingness to listen to criticism, and reluctance to relinquish control. (See Are Politicians Psychopaths?.) Politicians know also that unless they serve the interests of the status quo (which translates to doing the bidding of the Corporatocracy), they can easily be removed from power by those with a vested interest in the status quo.
Americans deeply desire change, but politicians avoid change (while lying and saying they support change)—change is not in the Corporatocracy's interest; this political system's charade is simply insane
Insanity is defined as doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. Maintaining the status quo is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. The catch here is that the powers-that-be neither want nor expect a different result, even though the vast majority of Americans deeply desire a different result. Yet electing someone to change any of this is fruitless. The new “someone” is either already a part of the status quo loving powers-that-be or s/he soon will be. It’s a very un-merry merry-go-round. See Yearning For Democracy.
The corrupt, hypocritical American political system is a very un-merry merry-go-round
This is why, regardless of whom one votes for, things keep getting worse; the rich get richer and the poor get poorer; huge government bailouts are extracted from us—the public—regardless of how irresponsibly and foolishly the bailed-out corporations have acted, so rather than having negative consequences for careless, stupid actions, they get rewarded; our kids’ futures get ruined by incredible debt; schools get worse at the same time jobs get scarce so even if one has a college degree, one may end up unemployed or flipping burgers. See Supercapitalism.
America is broken: our kids’ futures get ruined by the national debt, schools get worse, jobs get scarce, college grads flip burgers
Unless American citizens start defecating money, the debt has put us all in deep doo-doo
The 2009 bailouts Obama gave out were a disgrace to our country and the financial sector getting such a generous reward for their bad, irresponsible behavior was shocking to the public, but the financial sector partied on, laughing all the way to the bank
Occupy Wall Street
Occupy Wall Street was a demonstation to the powers-that-be that America is tired of the lies, corruption, and limitless greed that has led the Oligarchy in charge to keep squeezing more and more money from the lower and middle classes until it's worse than just that the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. Now it's the 99% get poorer while the 1% get richer. The OWS demonstrators coined the 99%/1% phrase to highlight the unfair power and wealth dynamic at play in the U.S.A. They may be "mad as hell," but with the current Oligarchy in change, they ARE going to "take it anymore." What option do they have? A rebellion? They wouldn't get far. The American Revolution may have been a great success, but rebellers would fail miserably these days. Like Dorothy found out in Oz that she wasn't in Kansas anymore, 21st century American citizens are absolutely not in the late 18th century anymore. The chances of succeeding at "fighting" the powers-that-be via organized violence, by complaining, by political means, by voting in someone else, or by assassinations are between zero and nil.

'You know, Archibald, my bladder is a tad too full—do these windows open? I'd like to send my regards to those pesky OWS protesters'
Note that the OWS demonstrations changed nothing. The Oligarchy couldn't care less about the economic suffering of the 99%, and no amount of protesting or civil disobedience will change that. No one at all voting would definitely send a signal, but that would just leave Obama in charge—a terrible idea. You remember him—he's the ass clown that's been funneling our money into the hands of the Oligarchy at a record rate, while he so badly mucks up foreign affairs that ISIS is born. These ISIS crazies won't be going anywhere anytime soon, regardless of who gets elected. By the way, WE voted for Hillary in the primaries, back when Dubya was still in office. She may be an insider that is supporting the Corporatocracy to get elected, but at least she's smarter and more sincere than the other presidential candidates in 2016. If Bernie was to win, he'd have to either sell out like O-bomb-'em or get a bullet in the brain. Such is the sad state of American politics. But Trump won. Oops!
Limitless greed has led the Oligarchy in charge to keep squeezing more and more money from us—folks, this a truly a shakedown
Snowden Wakes Us Out of Our Ignorant Stupor
Heroic NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden has demonstrated the type of courage and wisdom we all need to aspire to
Note that the Patriot Act defecated on American citizens' rights, and the NSA has spying campaigns in play where our privacy is gone so the government knows what we are doing and thinking by constant monitoring of Facebook and Twitter, so they can now detect who is unhappy and watch them like a hawk. But not just them—we are ALL being watched! (We owe Snowden a huge debt of gratitude.)
So if any citizens do more than just bellyache, the FBI will pay them a visit and they'll bring handcuffs. So, bitch all you want on websites and blogs and YouTube, since by now the government has figured out this is a necessary release valve for the unrest, feeling deceived and betrayed, and the government helping to kill democracy and siding with the oligarchs and against the citizens. But do NOT pick up guns or buy assault weapons or explosives or do violence or even plan violence or you're likely to end up getting water-boarded in a black site. Folks, violence is NOT the answer. And don't think OWS protestors didn't get on watch lists that may negatively influence their lives and careers. By the way, once they create the technology, can the thought police be far behind NSA's outrage of spying on us decent citizens?

America, Where We All Get a Piece of the Pie—Right?
The American Democracy ideal that used to involve an expectation that we would all work and all get a piece of the pie has degenerated . . .
The American Democracy ideal that used to involve an expectation that we would all work and all get a piece of the pie has degenerated into a few pigs sucking down most of the pie while the rest of us are lucky if we even get leftovers or scraps—many feel fortunate to even lick the plate. Fortunately for us, the pigs often feel it to be part of conspicuous consumption to leave a few morsels for the rest of us to fight over, as the pigs roar with laughter. See Who Will Tell The People?: The Betrayal Of American Democracy.
American Democracy has degenerated into a few pigs gorging themselves at the trough while the rest of us get crumbs
Where Did American Democracy Go?
As long as corporations are the main deciding force in elections rather than the citizens, democracy will be impossible
One can run around screaming with glee about living in a democracy until one is blue in the face, but it won't change the facts: The American Democracy ideal still exists, but the reality is something quite different. We live in an oligarchy that is slipping inexorably toward something few have dared contemplate: feudalism, complete with serfs (you and us) and aristocracy (the greedy rich who have rigged the game so it’s mostly zero-sum, win-lose, with us as servants, field workers, and ass kissers). Our rights will be simple: you'll have the right to choose between doing as you're told or lying down in a dirty alleyway and dying. Any active rebelling will earn you 24/7 water-boarding until you die, crack, or rat on all accomplices. The powers-that-be will have the unmitigated gall to label everyone who won't kiss their feet "unpatriotic"! And these actually patriotic people that get labeled "unpatriotic" people are "obviously" rebels, and if they're rebels they're "obviously" terrorists, so good-bye rights and hello Guantanamo Bay detention camp. See 8 Reasons Young Americans Don't Fight Back: How the U.S. Crushed Youth Resistance and see The US is an oligarchy, study concludes.

Is Getting Politics and Government Working Again an Impossibility?
There is a way to get politics and government working again so it is not just a phony clown show of Culture War screaming and prevaricating politicians keeping the gridlock going to please the Oligarchy which wants no political progress or boat-rocking since this involves change which they hate very much since right now they're in the best power position they've ever been in and change translates into less power, since they couldn't have more. To get politics and government working again we must have: Devolution—i.e., the transfer of power from a central government to subnational authorities. If the USA devolved from one to three countries (sort of like the devolution of the USSR), each of the three countries could agree on all the basics and merely debate details. (The three countries are East Liberal-Land, West Liberal-Land, and Bubba-Land, and it fits the voting patterns of red states and blue states, with any liberals in New Mexico and Colorado moving out of Bubba-Land—going to East Liberal-Land or West Liberal-Land—and the bubbas stay behind after which these two states are in Bubba-land too. If Cracker-Land or Redneck-Land is preferred to Bubba-Land, that's fine.) But the oligarchy loves the status quo and the way oligarchy is moving toward Feudalism, so they'll never permit this change. They love the idea of sitting on thrones and being carried around like aristocracy. For more on this, see Bold New World.

The Powers-that-be Prevent Action on Ecology Out of Greed
Technology remains uncontrolled because it has no appropriate value framework. Commercially driven, its course is determined by short-term gain and political interests often remote from the point of impact. And it is rooted in Descartian science, with its mechanistic view of the world and grandiose belief in the 'mastery of nature.' The desperately needed holistic view of ecology has, so far, barely shaken the technocracy. See The First Enlightenment Versus The Second Enlightenment. Watch An Inconvenient Truth and you'll see what we mean. It is a 2006 Academy Award winning documentary film about Al Gore's campaign to educate citizens about global warming.
Why are these facts important? Because the Oligarchy will not dictate to the technocracy or the politicians or the corporations that they need to do anything about ecology. As stated, they care only about their own power and wealth. So the political leadership we need to avoid being taken under by global warming and water shortages and pollution will not be forthcoming. The Oligarchy makes more money if their Corporatocracy buddies continue acting irresponsibly, as if actions (or inactions) have no consequences. We hope that these facts light a fire under citizens to do the only thing they can do to help turn all this around: Take the steps needed to revamp character in the U.S. (see The Responsive Communitarian Platform) so that we quit looking to politics and social engineers to help us. They won't. We will have to help ourselves. NO ONE IS COMING TO RESCUE US!
Folks . . . face it: the government and politicians and social engineers are the PROBLEM, not the SOLUTION!

America—the Peacemaker, Right? In Your Dreams!
More evidence of the Oligarchy's true character: You think the Oligarchy wants peace? Examine the actions of the powers-that-be—NOT their two-faced words. Since 1945, hundreds of international meetings have taken place to achieve the objectives of peace. But instead, arms have multiplied, and negotiations have become institutions where politicians talk peace but plan for war. (The U.S. is the biggest arms exporter in the world. Whereas they only peddled $7 billion dollars worth of weapons in 1978, in 2011 they peddled $66.3 billion dollars worth of weapons.) Apparently, presidents are instructed by the military industrial complex to find pretexts to start as many wars as possible so weapons manufacturers go from filthy rich to dirty filthy rich. The presidents can either go along with it (George Dubya Bush and his Iraq invasion with the WMD pretext) or try to fight it (JFK and Vietnam with the "stop commies before they enslave the world" pretext, and we all know what happened to him!).
The shadow government oligarchs are leading the USA toward eternal war which they can exploit to have eternally expanding wealth; we follow them at our peril

The politicians lie to us because if they reveal their true pro-corporatocracy (anti-citizen) agendas the public would revolt en masse

Our Nation's Actions Are Making the Founders Turn Over in Their Graves!
Our government openly subsidizes the destruction of our planet's climate, openly allows corporations to pay negative taxes, openly redistributes wealth upward, openly funds a military as costly as the rest of the globe's nations' combined, openly serves as the marketing firm for the U.S. weapons that make up much of that other half of the globe's armed forces, openly enacts corporate trade policies that ruin economies and the environment, openly denies us basic human services, openly prosecutes whistleblowers, openly restricts our civil liberties, openly murders large numbers of people with drone strikes. We can watch a police officer in New York choke a man to death on video and walk away without being prosecuted for any crime. (Source: David Swanson's review of Hidden History: An Exposé of Modern Crimes, Conspiracies, and Cover-Ups in American Politics) (If you think our "leaders" are "in charge," read Shadow Government: Surveillance, Secret Wars, and a Global Security State in a Single-Superpower World and see who really is running things!)
Our nation's actions are making the Founders turn over in their graves
Summary of What You Can Do
- Stop voting in national elections; it makes them think we're buying this pseudo-democratic farce and it encourages them to keep thinking that we are the stupid sheep they think we are
- Demonstrate loudly and often, but ALWAYS peacefully—follow laws and rules or be demonized and play right into their hands
- Don't lose hope in realistic actions but DO lose hope in useless actions (voting in national elections)
- Push hard for devolution so that none of these three new countries has any more excuses for inaction since each country's citizens agree on the basics and so will their leaders
- Forget top-down solutions and support bottom-up solutions, like the ultimate grassroots movement: the MC Movement. See MCs and PSBs, WHY Register for MC Search and Match?, MCs—Frequently Asked Questions, and The Revolution Of Hope. Since the government and the politicians are the problem, not the solution, abandon hope in political salvationism and invest it in something realistic like MCs, which need NO government or political help but merely for the politicians to keep their greasy mitts OFF them, which they will happily do. One thing politicians excel at: INACTION!
